i say yes, the cmos/bios chip is a hardware that new virus can now attack/exploit, if you bought recent unit, like a motherboard there is a recovery disk their that is design to backup or recover a bios in cases of virus attacks.
but theses attacks rarely happens, typical virus are only design to exploit the operating system mainly windows base systems.

Hi,
Yes, virus can definitely damage your hardware, especially your hard disk. There is a special type of virus that does this task. They manipulate every sector of your hard disk. Most efficient viruses are written in a language called Assembly Language. With this language it is possible to directly interact with your hardware and manipulate data even in a bit level. I am not going into details of this. You can crash a system even with a light-weight language like C. C facilitates interaction with Hardware. That is why most system programs are still written in either C or in assembly language. Thanks
God bless you

No, a virus can harm your hardware, A virus only affects the data/programs/software that is in you computer, eg., picture, musics and the corrupting operating system. Once you have deleted the virus your back to game, intense virus may require reformat, once reformatted your pc in now good as new.

Well, I think virus damage your computer in indirect way. because Their action can't affect to your hardware. But I will make you to reinstall windows. so that, if your computer has infect virus, they really make your hardware reduce their durabilities.
