Have you ever been afraid to try something...

but then when you do everyone actually likes it?
Brussel Sprouts is not something I've had often in my life. Actually I only remember having them once, and I remember that I didn't like them. Needless to say, I was not exactly keen on forcing my kids to try them. However I was growing tired of having the same veggies all the time at dinner. So for the past couple months I've been trying new things every so often. This week I grabbed a bag of frozen brussel sprouts in butter sauce by Green Giant. I decided to try them tonight, and nobody complained. I actually thought they tasted a lot like cabbage! It is definitely something we'll be having again.

Yes, many times I afraid to do something, especially if it involves a stage and talking infront. I am also afraid to try eating the food I haven't tried before, especially the vegetables commonly eaten by my parents. I am also afraid of diving and jumping from an elevated area. I am just so afraid to do so many things.

I have wanted to try them..I have had them before a few times and weren't exactly my favorite veggie..but it has been about 16 years since I have had them. I have seen them but always bypassed them. Maybe I should check them out again. I even have a coupons for that brand...so worth a try.. and yes I am always afraid to try stuff..and once I do I end up liking it..I need to also retry asparagus...beets..though no matter how hard I try..ain't gonna like them much..

I used to do a diet that called for beets.. I ate them.but it was awful..and I had to eat alot of things on that diet that I didn't like..there are some foods that once canned just taste not so well.. I love carrots..but not canned ones. I have ate fresh beets, but been about 22 years. I have been buying the fresh veggies when I can and frozen ones but steering clear of canned vegetables.

and by buying the ones I like that are frozen or fresh..I eat them more and look forward to eating them more..and that is how I lost 53 pounds in the last two months.

I think canned beets are okay, but I've never tried them fresh. Asparagus is not something I can eat too often either, it's really strong!

I tend to be a little hesitant on trying different things. At least if it's something that always gets joked about on how many people hate it. Like brussel sprouts. lol. I've never tried them, but I think I might since you said they taste like cabbage and I like cabbage. A lot of people don't like liver either. I tried it and I like it. At least the way I make it I do. I think it's good to try something new. You never know what you'll like till you give it a try.

I've never tried liver. My godfather liked it, but nobody else in my family did.. or they'd also never tried it. That is probably something I never really will try.. not because I am afraid to, but because I don't want to spend money on something I probably wouldn't like.

I was afraid to try ambrosia when I was growing up. My mom convinced me to give it a shot. And I liked it! I really did! I don't care much for it now though. I guess that's because I got my fill of it back when I as a kid. LOL
Happy mylotting!

I love ambrosia though I don't make it often enough anymore. Made it at Easter though.

Bleah, you picked the one food item on the planet that I always tell people I don't like. Actually, if they are done just right, they are ok. If they are overdone, they taste nasty and if they are underdone, they are hard as rocks.

I actually like sauerkraut, but in small doses...

Saurkraut is the one thing I certainly don't like. I didn't like it as a kid, and I did try it again recently as an adult and still don't like it. None of my kids like it either. I think that could have something to do with how it's prepared too, because once I had some homemade pierogies that had saurkraut in them and I didn't taste the bitterness at all.. it's like it had no flavor what so ever, and I could handle that. Though I've been reluctant to continue to try it to see if I could ever cook it properly to the point where I could stand it.

I love Brussels Sprouts if they are done properly. It is easy to overcook them and then they taste like mush to me. I normally get the baby ones because they don't have the strong flavor that some of the bigger ones have.
I have always avoided guacamole because it just looked gross to me and I avoided avocados because they are the main ingredient in guacamole. I recently had a Torta from a Mexican place and it had guacamole all over it. I loved it. On the sandwich anyway. I still have yet to try it on just plain chips.

I've had both guacamole and avocado. I actually find that it doesn't have much flavor at all. When I first began dieting a tip I'd heard was to put avocado on sandwiches instead of mayo, so I did. Like I said, no flavor. Though they do get expensive, don't last very long, and although they have tons of vitamins, they're very rich in fat, which I try to avoid as much as possible. So now I just go with a light mayo instead, and I don't use as much as I used to.

Hey kats! You know that's what I was thinking about brussel
sprouts! The look just like little cabbages and I don't know
why I don't eat them! I guess it's because when I was a kid
I wouldn't eat cabbage either! I know I won't eat asparagus
because I can't even stand the smell! But, I really should
try the brussel sprouts again, at least once?

Go with the baby ones, apparently they're not as strong.

I remember very well when I had to try a fuse at my place and as I am very scared of electricity I had to do it all alone, when I have to switch on I was facing the opposite direction of the fuse so that it does not burst on my face, I tried it though and it was not good at the end where I had to wait the whole night till my father was back home.

Who hasn't. I can say I've been known to not want to try things. Especially if I don't like them, but as I am older I'm better about trying new (and even old) things. I guess not wanting to try something new stems from childhood, but eventually I grew up. I'm still like that sometimes, but I've adapted.

There are a lot of people in my country who eat dogs and a lot of them wanted me to try the dog me but I am afraid of trying it no matter what they say. They said its good and its good for the body and things like that but what they say doesnt change anything cause I really dont like it.

Well been afraid to try.. I don't think so but not interested to try, yeah that happens most of the time. Then of course life got so mundane that I just feel like trying something new or do something different. It's just like doing something crazy in celebration for nothing and still enjoy it every inch of the way. I guess that's my way of enjoying every little things of my life. Cheers.

There have been a lot of foods I've had to let grow on me before I actually liked it. Mustard wasn't one of them though.

Hi, katsmeow1213. I love Brussel Sprouts too. I thought that I did not like them either, until I tried them. They are very delicious. I had the same kind from Green Giant too, in the butter sauce. I cooked mines in the microwave. I also love the veggies that are in the cheese sauce too. This has the cauliflower, carrots and broccoli in it. I thought that I would not like brussel sprouts either until I tried them. I love it. It is so delicious! I was very skeptical into trying them too, until I did. And when I did, they are not so bad after all. In fact, they are very healthy to it.

Yes, I have. I've been afraid to do a lot of stuff. I get anxious over little things and blow them out of proportion. A lot of the times I get forced to do them, like calling for pizza or something minuscule. (Yes, I used to be nervous to call for pizza) I've been afraid to try different sports, different computer programs, you name it. I was one scared kid, but I did most of the stuff and didn't end up hating much.
