Can you read and listen to your iPod the same time?

I saw my sister done it, but she wasn't doing some serious reading. She always read some fashion magazine or gossip magazines while she was listening to her iPod the same time. So, I just wonder, can you really do some serious reading, like a book or documents, while you are listening to your iPod the same time? Can you not be distracted, but doing the two things at the same time?

Yes, I can. It does take some practice to do though. It's sort of like watching TV and doing work at the same time. For the most part, I focus on reading the book and not care about the music that much. I can basically know what song is playing, but I won't think about it, or sing it. I wouldn't recommend doing it though :(. Your reading experience would not be as good, and I find it harder to let everything in the book sink in. I only do it sometimes, when I'm really bored :).

He says yes, but he tells us no. The scientific truth is NO. Your mind can not "Focus" on two separate thoughts at the same time. Sure, you can read while music is playing, but you will either be reading, or you will be listening not both. The only time this is effective, is when you are reading what you are listening too, such as listening to a book on tape, of the book you are reading. Because then the information is the same, and you can collecting it from two sources. Sincerely and With Appreciation.
