Bingo! Has worked for me since I was taught to do it as a child by my 3rd grade teacher. Works like a charm, just drink from the opposite side of the cup while you're bent over the sink to avoid mess.

actually i have tried all the traditional cures and some work for me..try to drink a glass of water continuously but slowly...if it doesn't work, keep your breath as much as you can...if it doesn't work, tell someone to scare you really hard hehe..and if that doesn't work either than think of all the persons that could be talking about you,and when you got the right person it stops:)))...one of those should work i hope

Scientifically proven: take a teaspoon of sugar. Hiccups are caused when the muscles in your diaphragm get out of whack, the sweet in the sugar triggers something that resets them. This really works.

Take a deep breath and hold while pushing out your belly like your pregnant.
The diaphram spasing is the cause of hiccups. When you push out your belly like your pregnant, it flattens the diaphram and stops the spasms.

Try this: Pinch your nose, hold your breadth. YOu will let out this really loud burp. That should rid you of the hiccup.
Another method I've tried, which I find works better for me, is to talk big gulps of water. Just plain water, but make sure you drink them in big gulp!!!

Hiccup cures were creating purely for the sole entertainment of the friends treating the patient :P
I got told to block my ears and my nose and drink from the far side of the glass.

Okay so this post is really old, but I just come across it and I haven't read the other comments. But...if you eat a spoonful of peanut butter it'll usually make them go away right away. Its the only cure that I know that works right on the spot.

The only way to get rid of hiccups is anticipation. NEVER fails.
You must turn your mind on to thinking about the next hiccup. You have to think about how much you want to show someone or hear your next hiccup.
Trust me it works
