I have a 7" notebook that is not measuring up to its standards for me. Now, I am really looking for a notebook/laptop that is big enough. I want one that has a bigger screen and a larger keyboard. If possible, I want one that I can watch movies and videos on. I want to be able to myLot and chat. I also want one where I can surf the web and check my emails. Me and my husband share an Acer Aspire 5515 14" screen/monitor/display together. I want my own personal computer. I also want one that does not have Windows CE Embedded in either. Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista would be my primary choices. I just need a basic laptop. It does not need to have Excel and Power Point on it. Just a laptop that can get me by.. I want an Acer Aspire. But it has to be in the range of $299.99 I want a laptop that I can pay this much for. No more than $300.00. I know that there are expensive ones on the market but I want a reliable laptop that has great Wifi connection and Broadband LAN. I am really considering doing a layway option for my future laptop. Do you all have any suggestions on what would be great laptop ideas for me? What kind of laptop suits you best? And how does it perform for you?

i think you should raise your range a bit because these days the laptops are much advanced and the prices have gone high. at 300$ you will get a netbook with low configuration but you will be able to perform the tasks you have mentioned. so need not worry. considering your budget .. you should check out these laptop models Dell Inspiron Mini 10 and you can also check out lenovo netbooks.

hi cream97 I really do not like laptops as they always have to go to the shop for repairs even if its just something small, I prefer desk top computer in stead. but I realize the beauty of a laptop is that it can go any where. I am told by others more knowledge than I am that Acer Aspire 5515 is one of the best, but that is all I really know about them. I have n ot ever owned one myself.

I think ASUS should be the best since it is quite stable and rated the best in the world. I have bought a Acer Aspire last year and I find that it is not so stable cos after used for few hours sometime it the display will just blackout and you have to restart it. I think they having some display card problem with it. It has a Nivdea GForce graphic card. So far other are still quite good except for the display problem. The wifi also ok.

MOst laptop do allow one to be suring the net, as long as u have the wireless thing to log on, wherever u are.. hehe ^_^ As for watching of movies, videos, that depends on what kind of player u need, for some movie players need to be downloaded elsewhere, and it's not in the com.. PLus, if u want a good picture quality, the graphic cards has got to be good ones, and as such, by time everything adds up, it's not quite possible to get a lptop for less than 300.. hehe

I think dell is a good brand and you might be able to get a refurbished dell for under 300.00. I know someone who got one with a 15 inch screen for 260.00. I have also been pretty happy with my Toshiba laptop which retailed at about 479.00. I think if you look around enough you should be able to find something that will meet your specifications.

I have a MacBook (Apple). I love Apple! It works great right out of the box. Just plug it in an go. And, you don't really have to worry so much about viruses since most viruses are geared towards PCs. I have a virus protection program on mine, just in case. And, if you like Microsoft, you can get Microsoft for Apple. I can't give you specific models or prices but, I would recommend that you consider it. I have far less problems with my MacBook laptop than a lot of my friends have with their PCs.

I really like my Dell Inspiron. I have had Dells since 2001. Wouldn't go elsewhere. If you check on HSN they occasionally have a good deal on Dells and you can pay for it over several months. Usually comes with alot of software and neat stuff. Hope you find what you need and at a good price. Good luck!

I have bought a Dell Vostro 860 and I have never ever had a problem since with it, it had windows vista but I changed and replace with Windows 7 which is possible to do, it will not costs you a fortune also, once when I was returning home I got drench in the rain and when I came home I open my laptop to see water all over, i thought everything is over for me but it was not, in fact Dell is very durable and reliable too.
