Which free antivirus do you prefer??

So I've always had a lot of trouble with anti-virus software actually doing what it is supposed to. The last time I actually paid for an anti-virus, I got a huge virus and my computer crashed. :( I don't like to waste money, so I switched to free anti-virus software, but I haven't really found one that seems to actually be doing its job. So which free one to do prefer? I just barely downloaded Avast today. What do you think of that one?

I think the free antivirus do not work efficiently,in the free version all their features are not activated. I had personally used many free antivirus but I got a lot of problems. So I paid for a antivirus and now I am not facing any problems.

I've paid for a few different antiviruses and I still had problems, so that's why I don't want to pay for any.

I've heard that Avast is a very good free antivirus software. But since we have a subscription to McAfee I haven't really used Avast that much. I've just heard from my friends that it's a good antivirus.

I use avast... it has picked up viruses, and also warned me about probable malware, that gets found on sites, and if I download stuff particuarly I have never had a problem with it

I used to rely on the avast to guard my system, too. Now, the new version seems to be worse than before. I have to discard it. Since there is no antivirus protection, I reinstall my system every when it seems abnormal. Though it is a little boring, I, now, very familiar with the installation procedure and have no sense with that.

Darn. Well I just installed avast, so I guess I'll find out quick if it is junk. Thanks for the headsup.

I suggest that you use avast free edition. It can protect your pc from virus like the other anti virus professional can do. It requires minimum memory. 256 MB Ram it the minimum requirements and it will not slow down your computer whenever you scan for viruses.

Ok. That is the one I just installed, so hopefully you are right and it works good. So far, I've only had one person say that it's not good, so I'm hoping they are wrong lol. But I guess I'll see. Thanks for responding. :)

ive used AVAST, KASPERSKY and AVG and i must tell you that avg is the best amongst all of the free anti virus softwares available online..i dont think avast is worth wasting your time on.. i recommend that you download and install AVG free version and alongside this dowload the free version of advanced system care !! Advanced system care helps you maintain your computer by removing spyware, fixing the registry, privacy sweep and optimising your computer for better use !! hope this helps !! cheers !! :)

I've tried AVG before and I still had problems, so I ended up uninstalling it. However that was quite a while ago, so maybe it's better now. Or maybe I'm just weird. lol. Thanks for the advice. :)

I’ve been using AVG Free for a couple of years and I’ve found it quite good. I’ve heard of Avast and it sounds like it is a good one too. I used to have Norton which was not free and it caused all sorts of problems on my computer, it even stopped emails coming through and no amount of setting changes would rectify the problem until I uninstalled it. AVG has given no problems whatsoever!

Awesome. I've never heard of that one before. Thanks. It really lets you keep reinstalling the free trial version? That's pretty cool.

Well, I don't have any experience with Avast. I am using Quick Heal Total Security, I can tell you it's ever best anti virus software, I am using it since 2 years, it's really nice, it has fire wall included, it has anti spam, anti spyware and everything you need. It can also scan your computer in Native Boot mode, so it can remove all viruses. But it's not free actually, I always keep using trials, every month I download new trials, it's trial though it works really nice. You can download trial from here: http://www.quickheal.co.in/downloads.asp

If you think to use free antivirus than avast 4.8 home version and avg free version is good. But make sure that free antivirus tools are not strong as per professional antivirus. Previous time I used this two antivirus and i take a good result.

I've been using Avira Antivir Personal for more than a year now. And I can say that I'm very much happy with its protection. Haven't encounter any viruses since. The only downside of this anti virus is its updating process. It takes some time to connect to its server or find updates. Aside from that I'm secured and contented. Thanks Avira!
