One extreme solution is to wrap the affected HDD carefully, and leave it in the freezer for a few hours. Then reconnect the HDD to the system. It has been reported that in many cases this works, and gives the user a few hours grace to backup the data, before the HDD goes to sleep forever. You can try using a search on this issue, using keywords like 'deep freezing a HDD'.

A ticking sound usually indicates a physical failure of the HDD. Based on the information given the most probable cause is the heawt generated from the spinning platters. If heaet is the cause then changing cables usually does not work. Giving the HDD another knock will usually add to the problem.
Deep freezing causes the material to realign. That is why if the HDD is wrapped and sealed properly, and frozen for at leasr 12 hours, this method is the winner.

Buy new hard disk. Format it and install operating system. After installing, attached the damaged hard disk into the computer. Make it slave and copy the files from it using the new hard disk. It the damaged hard disk is not working, try to replace the pcb if you have available.

Remove the hard drive and put it into an enclosure.Plug it into another computer as a slave. Then you can copy your files off it.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter but you can't access your data, you can recover you data with 3rd party data recovery software.I have a professional program on my computer that can recover data after deeply scan your hard drive to look for lost data due to drive crash, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/recover-data-from-hard-drive.htm
