Okay the verdict is out.And the culprits have received a 2 year punishment after 25 years. For those of you who are not aware,a terrible accident took place in Bhopal,India 25 years ago in 1984.Union Carbide(UCIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow Chemical Company of United States released Methyl Isocynate, a poisonous gas and other toxins in the atmosphere resulting in the exposure of 500,000 people to it.35000 people died as a result of poisoning and other gas related diseases. So many others became physically impaired for life. The chairman of the company,Mr Warren Anderson absconded and somehow reached America.Today, after 25 years the Indian courts have come to a decision which is just a 2 year imprisonment for the 7 other management people who were responsible for it.And that also,is a bailable offense. All Indian citizens have criticized the verdict. What is your opinion in this matter? Is this punishment enough in compensation for 35000 lives? What about punishment for Warren Anderson who has found safe haven in Long Island,America.Shouldn't Dow Jones be held accountable too?Don't the victims deserve monetary compensation as well??
