I have always thought this since I joined second life even for myself: People go on Second Life because they aren't entirely satisfied with their real life. Don't get me wrong I am not saying this is a bad thing or trying to insult or belittle anyone after all I went on second life aware of this and believed it applied to myself. Everyone always asks each other (or so I found) "What brought you to second life" or "What brings you here". I have found people on second life for money and others for social standing higher than that of their first life. I have also found people on second life for less drastic reasons such as being lonely, wanting to meet people, and other such things.
I am curious to know your opinions on this topic. I am also curious to know what brought you to second life?
Myself: I went to second life to find romance as cheesy as it is. However I found a women who seemed interesting, we talked and I found out her reason for being on second life without even asking. Turns out we were both there for the same reason. Now neither of use second life because we have a full first life.

Congratulations on living your own life
I've never been on Second Life but I would imagine what you say to be true. I guess that's the pull of the game. Be someone you cannot be in the real world. It's not something I would want to do to myself. Granted, I'm not yet very satisfied with the way my life is going right now and I am aware I've have a LOT to improve upon but I would rather I spend time making my 'first' better than trying to fool myself in my 'second' life. Then again for some it can honestly be 'just a game.'

That is a good philosophy and you should be extremely proud of yourself not many can be that motivated myself included. I got lucky meeting someone and escaping before I lost all of my friends. I hope everything works out for you.

The thing is, absolutely nobody can say they have lived a perfect life. With or without Second Life there is something missing or something that shouldn't have been. Second Life is a social program, but it can be a game. It isn't always for people who hate their first life.

I was playing Second Life and I enjoy it because I like games with full customization of the avatar. Yes, I agree the fact that you said many residents are playing SL because they are lonely, wanting to meet people etc because they are used to play virtual worlds like SL. And also they play SL to earn money, they can buy and sell properties like real estate and when they got their Linden Dollars they will convert it to a real US dollars. Its just like you play and got paid, you enjoy and got paid something like that. As for myself, I play SL because I really love the dresses there for my avatar. It's just like that I have a Barbie doll which is moving, and I can control what she will do. I dress her, customize her hair, eyes and the whole body. ^^ I live a happy first life and at the same time I enjoy with a virtual world Second Life.
