Poppies at my house

I have so many, California poppies, those are the orange and yellow ones. I have always had a few but somehow last year the seeds got spread around and the weather has been perfect for them. I guess some would consider them weeds, but not me, just one sight out the window gets a smile from me and to walk through them to see all the different colors is total joy. So this year I have poppies in the rose garden and on the walks, that is just the kind of year it is.

hi savypat I love California poppies and they have so many colors now
too. This has been great weather for making things pop up and color our '
lives. They sound really so pretty and growing wild like that will look
really natural. I am here in a retirement home at present with no place to garden and I do miss that too.Poppies in the rose garden sounds really lovely to me.

i would love to have some poppies, but our cops are too stupid to know the difference between opiate and non opiate poppies.
they came up here one year and forcably ripped out ones my grandmother had for over 25 years.
i miss them tho, they're beautiful flowers.

These are California Poppies they look nothing like the opiate poppies. Maybe you could get buy with them. Just make sure you keep the package the seeds come in.
But there are many other beautiful flowers you can plant, the Columbine reseeds and blooms for at long time, it's beautiful also.

Some kinds of poppies are sketchy on the legality on growing them. Many kinds contain morphine alkaloids or opium that can be extracted pretty easily. I don't think the California are that kind of poppy though. But i think they are a pretty flower to grow in the yard.

You should post a photograph of your pretty poppies, I’m sure they are a sight worth seeing! I am not a gardener by any means by I do enjoy getting out there amongst the flowers around spring time and savouring the sights and smells. We are in winter here so many of the flowers are in hibernation. I am looking forward to those beautiful sunny spring days where all the greenery and colours come to life!

I am so incredibly jealous of you. We want to have poppies in our front yard and last time we were at my in-law's house we dug up a couple of them to plant in our yard, but they didn't survive. Of course it doesn't help any that his dad had already mowed them with the lawnmower. I'm hoping that some of hers will come back so that we will be able to get some of the seed pods. I'd love to have them dominate our entire front yard.

These flowers seem to grow best by seeds. Once you get them started they will spread. It may be to late to plant them this year but I would buy some seeds so that I can spread them in the fall. Fall is when mine reseed.

I think I love that kind of year. A year of abundant surprises that make you smile. A Lot of things produced really well this year, so it is fitting that the poppies did too.

Hi, Pat!
That must be absolutely gorgeous! The only thing that's ever gone nuts here and taken over, besides weeds, has been watermelon and cantaloupe. Plant one or two and get hundreds when we have a really wet and hot combination of weather...

I forgot to plant the poppy seeds my neighbor gave me, the little pod below the flower. I love poppies! My neighbor has lots of them and they're so beautiful. I envy you having all those lovely poppies but if I had been organized I would have had some of my own!

Hey pat! I don't even think that I know what a poppy looks like?
Are they pretty weeds? I guess that they must be if you are
talking about them! I happen to like alot of "weeds" that other
don't so I am sure that I probably would like the poppies too!
What is a "weed" to one is a "blossom" to another~

I was walking around our neighborhood today and I was surprised how many homes have poppies in the front yard. I saw a variety of red, orange and a pinkish white.
I have never grown poppies, but after what I saw today, I will give then a try.

Too bad you didnt take a pic to show us!!!
In some towns here, we're not allowed to use weed killers anymore. I dont mind at all, I love seeing the different colors on my lawn. Tiny white flowers, even dandelions are pretty to look at....they're flowers after all, arent they?
So I dont mind and I can tell you dont either :)
