On tonight's epi of NCIS (I know, it was a repeat, but I hadn't seen it before) there was a reference to the TARDIS and Doctor Who. Now, I think it was TONY (!!!) who made the reference, but I can't be sure (it was DARK and my tv doesn't do dark well) So, was it Tony, the movie geek or was it Tim, the real geek? I need to know! I wanna talk to Whovians about it!

Ooh! I've never seen NCIS (though the wonderful David McCallum is in it, I believe?) but I am a huge fan of Doctor Who! How interesting it got mentioned on a big programme like that. Doctor Who is really big over here, but not so much in the US, I guess? Have you seen Matt Smith as the Doctor?

OH YES!!! We watched the Van Goth episode Sat night! (don't ask how we did it...) And yes! Illya, I mean Steel, I mean David McCallum IS on it! And Doctor Who is my FAVORITE show! Doctor Who is a big deal in the science fiction segment of U.S. society... Did you know the Doctor and I share a birthday? Yep, the show started Nov 23, 1963 and I started Nov 23, just a bit earlier!

The Van Gogh episode was great, it made me cry! I loved Sapphire and Steel - what a great series that was! Really spooky. We have the DVDs and it was great to see them again. There were a couple of episodes which had stuck with me since childhood.

Yes, it was McGee and when he said it was from Dr. Who, Tony said who watches that?

I figured it was the other one, wasn't Gibbs, since we know he doesn't watch TV...

Gibbs had a television set in his basement when the show first started. This past year he had one in his living room - because when his father came to visit Gibbs showed it to him but said something about not having cable. I've always wondered why they made it seem as though Gibbs never watched television or movies when in the first few episodes of NCIS, Gibbs referenced several movies, television shows and celebrities. In "Yankee White" he kept talking about the Harrison Ford movie where he was the president and Gibbs compared the planes onscreen to the one they were in. He also came out with some other television references during the first season and also compared McGee to Michael Jackson when McGee was holding a bandanna over his face so he wouldn't throw up. He told Tony to,"Get Michael Jackson out of here before he ralphs." Tony really didn't reference that many movies or television shows at first - in fact, when Abby mentioned Hooterville - Tony had no clue what she was talking about and when she said it was on old t.v. show he said he preferred new shows. Funny, now Tony knows all the classics and references them all the time while Gibbs has suddenly lost almost all memory about such things. I guess the writers were just developing the characters at first and decided to change them a little. In any case, I love them all - especially Tony and Gibbs.

If I remember correctly, it was Tim. Tony was talking about old detective shows like Kojak. The show was new to me, and I thought I had seen every episode.

I can believe Tim, after all, he's the SF geek (speaks some Klingon - I don't do that!)

I watched that episode again after reading your post. It is "On Demand" and you can watch somethings as many times as you want. I watch that show all the time, but I didn't remember that reference, probably because I am not really into Science Fiction. Anyway it was Tim. Tony just said "Who watches that?". Which was odd for his character. He is usually the one making remarks about shows or movies.

Actually, I'm not surprised, Tim is the sf geek after all, Tony just the movie geek
