Would you friend your Parent(s)on Facebook? My dad friend-ed me the other day, and quite honestly i was rather shocked he decided to make an account. I had told him about the application and how i talk to family on Facebook. Aunts, Uncles cousins and such. The other day i received a request from him. Not that i have anything to hide, or hate him, but he is just not the type of person that would join something like this (or so i thought) H
He is a very skeptial person. One of those that shred mail before throwing it out. Perhaps he thought it was okay after i told him his sisters and such were on.
My best friend had said she read an article warning people not to be friends with parents on social media sites. What do you think?

Wow. That's awkward. And I think that's not a good idea either, especially if your friend is underage or hasn't graduated from that school yet.

I agree. Conflict of interest if you still are in school with the teacher especially in class. If it's a teacher she had in the past and no longer attends the school, then i think that would be ok. Nothing different there than visiting your school after you graduate and pay your favorite teachers a visit.

I dont think theres anything bad about letting your parents be one of your friends in facebook, well not unless your trying to hide something from them then theres a problem indeed. But if your not trying to hide something then go on add them up, remember they are our parents they also have the right to sometimes check on us even if we are adults already, besides unless their motives are not good then theres nothing to be worried about .I know parents can be so annoying sometimes because they often do things that are seem to be not acceptable for us but if we just try to understand more and communicate with them everything will be cool for us and our parents. To sum it up theres nothing wrong with adding your parents to your social network specially if they are the ones requesting for it

Neither do i. I'm older and the only reason i started facebook was for my high school reunion. Then the beast took on a world of its own:)If i was teenager, shoot i probably wouldn't even have a facebook page. My mom was rather strict. (shes passed away)I do love that i can talk with relatives i haven't seen in a long time!Funny my dad just started his account and already has ammassed almost the same amount of "friends" :)

I'm friends with my dad on Facebook but I'm old enough now I don't really have anything to worry about with that but I don't post anything for him to complain about. If I were still a teen though I'd have rather deleted my account than add any parents. I've found articles too about why not to add parents on Social networking sites but those apply to certain kind of parents. You're mom sounds like a good example of what they mean. Parents can be putting their kids in harms way by some of the things that they post.

Very interesting question. I personally have almost all of my family members on facebook. Like you I have nothing to hide, and I find that it is a good way to keep in touch when I'm not able to use the phone or visit in person. I think that it all depends on the relationship that you have with your parents. I personally have no problem adding them and think that it is neat that they like to go on it. I also like the fact that they are interested enough in my life to keep an interest in it.

my mom and i are friends on facebook too..
she added me but i didnt want to accept... she said she just wants to see my pictures and chat with me if i will be away from home..
its all my fault, i created an account for her so she can communicate with her sister in florida... and now, she is searching her friends and classmates... and added them... when she saw me, she tried to add me too..
so yeah, i had to accept the invitation.. and since i know, she would question a lot about my photos and my friends and my status message which would annoy me, i personalized my privacy settings so she wouldnt see it... waaaaahhh.. hahaha..
mean mean mean me.. lol

That's quite smart of you! LOL I don't think I'd add my mother, but then again, she doesn't have a facebook and probably never will. She finds it a waste of time. I understand why she thinks that too.

My mom recently discovered the "wonder" of facebook and added me. I added her back without thinking about it because I figured she wouldn't use it all that much, but now she's finding time to learn how to use the site ! And it's kinda weird having her on the site, even though I don't really have anything to hide from her. She is the last person I expected to think that Facebook was fun, LOL.

well it is not really a problem to me because i don't spill/reveal my problems in facebook but my brother did lol and there was a lot of talk about it

My parents are not familar with Facebook and they are not going to join FB anytime in future. I have my big brother added as friend and also there are many younger brothers/sisters. I do not think there is any problem unless you are hiding something which is shared on the site.
