Personally, i dont like door to door salespersons and their activities, coz they make unwanted calls and disturb my work and rest. Suppose you are talking on a phone with your friend, or having a sound sleep, when your door bell rings. you hurry to answer the door. What do you feel when you find a stranger standing before you and ask you whether you like to try out their product? Do you think they have right to disturb the other's normal life?

I think you are not the only one who doesn't like door-to-door sale. Personally, I don't like it either cause sometimes they just interrupt me from whatever I'm doing. Especially if I'm doing something urgent, really important, and undelayable.
I think we shouldn't categorize it as disturbing-normal-life. Why not try to see it on 2 different sides. For us, it's a great disturbance but for them it's just the way they are doing their jobs for a spoon of rice. Have you ever imagined if you have to wear their shoes? It's hard, isn't it?

Charlies, i agreed with you. Everything has two sides, so personal selling does.It is a very tough sale, in fact those who wear these shoes are not easy, even for " a spoon of rice" lol, but it's really irritating, if you accept them, they will force you to buy more, these products are actually of poor quality. I think that it's not popular with customers coz the sales calls are unschedules and hence disturb people's life,if just only for a so called "a spoon of rice" to disturb others, this kind of selling should be condemned in the strongest terms, shouldnt it?

Hi Joeboe,
I find it very rude when someone knocks on my door to sell a product. My home is my sanctuary...a place where I can relax. I do not appreciate the intrusion or the push to buy a product which obviously I can live without. Anything worth buying does not have to be sold by pushing people. The only ones that I can't resist are the little kids selling for a cause.Even then, it is almost always a product that I don't want.

I second on not liking door to door selling the product.
Asking to try or buy the product when the person is resting or not in condition to entertain these people, it is irritating. If they want to do this kind of selling then a time slot should be fixed, say morning 10-12 (it's just an example).
But on the other hand the people who does this kind of work, are shouted, abused and listen like any thing by the customer. This is purely reaction of being disturbed.

Hi joeboe!
I can understand how you feel. I would get mad too. But if you care to ask why they do that you would probably change your mind. It makes accepting easier. But if it's just too many then do something. Put a poster or anything that says door to door sales not entertained.

I live in a subdivision with a "No Trespassing" sign in the front. If we get door-to-door sales people, we are supposed to call the local sheriff's department and have them come remove, or escort the people out of the subdivision. They aren't allowed to be here and, if there is a sign posted, they can be charged with trespassing.
I know that the legitimate sales people are just trying to do their job but, if I want something, I will go to the store or order it online. So, I really resent someone coming to my door. And, it can be unsafe. Sometimes it is a person with bad intentions so, it puts me on edge. Most times, I won't answer the door. I have a storm door and a regular door so, if I do answer the door, I only open the regular door and leave the storm door closed and locked. I have a huge dog that gets excited when people come to my door so, I use him as an excuse why I won't open the door. And, because of his size, people tend to be afraid of him, even though he is really just a total sweetheart. They don't know that though so, sometimes it makes it easier for me when they come to my door. They are in more of a hurry to leave once they see him.
I don't mind Brownies or Girl Scouts. They are as old as time and, come one...they are selling me cookies. But, people who are trying to sell me magazines, housewares, art, offering to wash my car for a price, mow my lawn...whatever...I don't go trying to sell anything at your house so, don't come to mine.
And, when I was in college, there was a girl who came to my apartment selling magazines. She talked me into buying 2 then somehow got me to leave the room for something. I stupidly left my checkbook behind. When my rent bounced, it became apparent that I had been robbed, and by whom. She stole a check out of the back of my checkbook. She made a check out in my name for a larger amount for more magazines so she could get a bigger commission. I had carbon copies in my checkbook so, all I had to do was go to the bank and show them proof of the check I did write, with my correct signature and they canceled the stolen check. I canceled my order and, I think the girl got fired for fraud. Anyway, I learned my lesson about door-to-door salespeople and, now, they don't step foot into my abode. I was naive in college. Now, I'm not such a trusting moron. LOL!

I don't like it and I don't like sales calls either. They have a right, I guess, but you have a right to shut the door on them, just say no or whatever.

Tried it myself once very long ago, trying to sell magazine subscriptions to offices, cold calling, canvassing door to door, office to office, its a experience i dont think i will repeat. You need a very thick skin and must be totally prepared for rejection.More dissapointment than success.Because on one side people get annoyed, whereas on the salesperson side, they are trying to make a living.

I think that being a door to door salesperson is a really tough job. I don't think I would be able to do that kind of job. You have to be used to having the door slammed in your face. When I see that its not a person I know at the door, then I wouldn't even bother to answer it.

I do not like this activity but understand that those who are doing this have a purpose of their job. They are doing this job for money and that is demand of the nature of the job to visit door to door. I do not like this but never misbehaved any salesperson at door just because he/she rang the bell. I tell them politely that this product does not interest me or I do not need this and they just go saying thank you.

Hi there Joe Boe!
I don't really like door to door salesperson too. I think that it's not right to go and knock into someone's door just to try to talk them into buying whatever it is that you're selling. I think that if I really need your product, then most likely, I would look for it in proper places. Sometimes, door to door selling harms the product more than help it. People who get disturbed doing important things or just resting will get angry and might remember the product and might come to hate it because of that specific disturbance.

I don't agree as well with these kind of products sold for door to door, it makes me think they are no good products that are not well sold on the market.
If someone would knock on my door and ask me if I want to buy a new product I simply tell her no and excuse myself and maybe wish her a good day. I don't know about if they have the right to disturb you or not ... some people are just doing their jobs, I don't blame them.

Door to door sales people can be annoying. Of course they don't come around selling you something that you really want. They never want to take no for an answer. Sometimes you wish you had never answered the door in the first person. Happily, I do not live in a area at the present time that is frequented by many door to door sales people.

i think door to door sales is a very tough job. i, personally, don't think i could do that job. that's why when there's a salesperson at my door. i will look at what he's selling and if i don't care for it then i'll tell him no thanks. i won't let him pitch any more to me. it's best not to take any more of his time and so i don't waste my time also.
