Community Garden

I was wondering how people come up with getting the land for a community garden. I live by a big empty lot. It is well maintained. But that is all they are doing with it. I was thinking about starting a community garden but I am not sure about how to best approach the owners about the land. Any suggestions?

Hmmm.. That's really tough because land is very expensive and important for most. They could even use it as collateral. I think that should have been an obligation of the government.
But if it's only a small parcel of land that could be made into a garden that would be simple. Perhaps finding a benefactor or a group of people having the same vision is well too.
If I were you though, in this time of economic slowdown, I think it would be best if instead of having a garden, you'd have a farm. I mean, a vegetable garden with lot of crop would not only look good but could also supply the community with fresh vegetables or food and income to sustain itself.

There really is enough land there. That is really more what I had in mind. I don't think that I would need all of it. I am pretty sure it is aleast 2 blocks or better.
