Zero Tolerance Rules in School

United States

I read an article today by the associate press that reported a 5 year old being suspended by his school. The youngster had brought a folding pocket knife to school and brought it out at lunch time to open his sandwich. Because of school rules he was suspended. I agree with the zero tolerance, but will he even realize what he did wrong??

I don't think at this young age he would realize that this was wrong. I mean in his head he was just opening his sandwich. Granted kids that young shuoldn't have pocket knifes but I mean we need to be realistic here.

Suspended? At age 5? Most Five year olds do not know right from wrong yet, That is totally Rediculous. I can understand if 8 or 9 ... Jeesh. I just told my parents this one, and now she said I heard that one I told it to her, she said no that was not it. I asked her what it was. She said that 5 year old got into trouble for Sexually assualting his teacher by hugging her, and brushing against her boob accidently. I'm Sorry, but I feel both cases are pushing WAY to Far. Five year olds are just learning they do not know right from wrong yet, and most likely both Five years old had no idea there was any wrong in both cases. Zero Tolerance I can understand. But it has to be enforced Reasonbly! ... This is rediculous. - DNatureofDTrain
