Real Estate License - how useful?

I'm looking for some feedback from anyone who has obtained their real estate license. I'm considering enrolling in a short term, low cost training to get my real estate license. I'm not interested (YET) in pursuing real estate full time, I was more interested in becoming a "referral associate". I notice that Weichert most frequently advertises for Referral Associates, I'm worried that it might be a scam?? Does anyone here have any experience in real estate? I work full time, and would love to just be able to help friends, answer questions, and make some cash through referrals... Advice?
