Do you often step hard on the gas pedal?

Are you a fast driver? Perhaps you often step hard on the gas to accelerate better. Actually I used to be a fast driver, I often overtaken other vehicles, and drove fast to reach my destination in lesser time, and also because I am driving a fast car. But it is very costly in terms of gas consumption. Recently, I tried to drive moderately and as much as possible, I avoid stepping on the gas pedal hard. It is actually effective to consume lesser gas. It is actually advisable specially now that the price of gas keep on rising. How about you, do you drive fast and often step hard on the gas pedal?

Herro Harold_ks I guess I'm the oddball. When I learned how to drive many years ago, I was taught to drive like a have an egg between my foot and the gas pedal. I have found that being gentle with the gas pedal gets me places 1-2 min behind others. Sometimes a stop lite stops them and I slip up beside them. TeHe. I too get frustrated on the freeway if someone is doing less than the speed limit in the middle or far left lane. I will look for opportunities to go around them. Does anyone have any other ideas. Prosperous mylotting

Herro Harold_ks I've got your id memorized, I really appreciate your discussions and how I can contribute. Obviously I don't contribute if I don't know the subject. Prosperous mylotting

Haha, I just like the way you described it, having an egg in between your foot and the gas pedal. Lol! I can say that you are really not a fast driver. But it's good that you still do overtaking(surprisingly, lol just kidding). If you can't them because they keep in the middle, you can blow your horn. Thank you for responding and happy myLotting!

well, i'm a new driver so i can't call myself a fast driver yet. but sometimes, when i'm on the expressway, my mom would say that i'm driving to fast when i go over 80kmh. i guess she's just nervous. my uncle, however, likes it when i do it i think. well, it's probably because he's the one who thought me how to drive. but when it's raining, he doesn't like me going fast. but when i get used to eat, i prefer going fast. even now, at my beginner stage, i would overtake cars who are slower than me.

When I reached 80kmh, it's the time for me to shift in quinta or 5th gear. Yes, it's already fast for a beginner. You should just be sure that you still have a good control of it. Just always drive safely. Yes, when it's raining, better not to drive fast since the road is slippery and it's harder to see what's ahead of you. I can see that you will be a good driver since you are now comfortable with your driving. Thank you for your response.

i only drive an automatic car, so i don't know how to shift gears. when i tried to drive manually though, i once made it to second gear. :)

I am not a slow driver.And I do not drive at break neck speed too.I speed up at times not to cause inconvenience to the flow of traffic.Years of driving makes you mellow and teaches you when to step on and when not.

It's good that you can maintain a normal speed but you also know when to speed up as well as to slow down. Thank you for responding.

I step on the gas pedal gradually. My dad really stomps on it and I find it really annoying.

That practice of yours is really the safer way of driving. Keep that practice and always drive safely. It's really annoying when the driver is driving too fast, but seems not in good control. Thank you for your response.

I don't especially if there is no need. I always make sure to stay within the speed limit imposed in areas I drive. As much as possible I don't step on the gas pedal hard or not at all when the road is downhill as it is unnecessary. I also want to know more ways to save petrol as it is expensive.

Yes, it's good not to go beyond the limit. When it's downhill, you really not need to step on the gas pedal, you can even shift the gear to neutral. I also heard that the aircon will cause more fuel consumption, so if you can stay without it, much better. Thank you for responding.

Well I used to drive fast as well.. Especially when I first got my driving permits. But just after a few years on the road, after seeing all the accidents that are inevitable or perhaps due to the growing sense of maturity, lately I'm not giving the gas pedal such a hard time anymore. And to tell you the truth, to actually drive fast on the road is something that is very stressful but to drive at moderate speed is simply a pleasure of life :D Cheers!

Yah, we should not think that we are in a race or playing an arcade game, it's always better to drive safely, slowly but surely. Lol! But not too slow, just a moderate speed as you mentioned. Thank you for your response.

yes, i'm a strong guy and i notice i step hard on the gas pedal without even knowing it. i started to ease up a bit on the pedal by not putting some much pressure on the it and noticed the vehicle drove just as good without making the engine sound like it was working harder. my vehicle is a used ford explorer van from 1995 so i got to make it last as much as i can since i can't afford a vehicle right now.

I can imagine that you are really a big guy, maybe you often spend time on the gym. Yes, sometimes, if you weigh too heavy, a light touch is already hard enough. You really need to make yourself comfortable stepping on the gas pedal just lightly. Yes just take care of your van like taking care of yourself and I'm sure it will lasts even longer. Thank you for responding.

I can't drive yet but hope to be able to soon. Ive failed my test once already but hopefully I'll pass next time. I failed for putting my foot down and going a bit too fast round some tight bends. When i pass im sure i will put my foot down sometimes but i won't like paying out for petrol so gotta drive efficiently too :)

You should really need to slow down in driving towards curve roads. It will be dangerous to drive fast on that situation. Once you are already driving, just maintain a normal speed and avoid going too fast as it will cause a faster fuel consumption. I hope you will be able to pass the drive test next time. You can do it.

I used to when I first began driving... I think generally first time drivers do... but I don't now because it costs me too much in fuel to drive to fast, and not only that I have learnt that by driving sat does not really get you anywhere any quicker, so really what is the point in putting yourself and others in danger by driving fast.
@Harold_ks (1673)

Yes, I also thnk that those who are just starting to enjoy driving tends to drives fast. Driving fast consume fuel faster and it's also dangerous so it's really better to drive safely. We have only one life and we should take good care of it. Thank you for your response.

I'm one of those drivers that hate it when people aren't going the speed limit as i will stomp on the gas and pass them or if i just want to get going but,i guess most of us are all like that in ways.As i do have a little road rage going on i don't yell or that type of thing i just step on the peddle and go as i am trying to calm down on that just not to easy.
@Harold_ks (1673)
11 Jun 10
Yah, that is really the tendency when the one in front of us is driving slow, we have to overtake. But I am not also the type of person who yell at people, I will just pass them. We should really maintain our temper and keep patient on the road. Thank you for your response.

Hello, I'm not a very fast driver, but sometimes I like to step hard on the gas. I have a Honda Prelude '96 2.2 dohc v-tec (if your fast cars fan you will know what it means) so it would be a sin not to speed up time to time. I'm a student, so of course the gas price is killing me now, so even I want to go fast usualy just go as fast as says speed limit...

No, I'm not really a car enthusiast but based on what you have mentioned, I think you really have a fast car. But the problem with fast cars are they will really give you pain in gas consumption. Yes, you can be the leader of the road but you will also be the leader in most gas consumed. Lol! So it's really better to drive in a normal speed. Thank you for your response.
