why do people lie?

It is wrong in any case. It is usually more comfortable for the person doing the lying. What I hate is once caught they continue to lie.

I think that some people choose to lie as a result of it being comfortable as crazy or absurd as this may sound! For a short time they may feel that by lying, this will get them out of a sticky mess! This feeling doesn't last though as I'm pretty sure they will be inundated with worry about the possible consequences of their actions and it's not a way to live in my view. There are those that might start out with little white lies as they are called but then they eventually graduate to bigger and bigger lies and their life then becomes unbearable. I think everyone has told a lie in their lifetime me included but as a general rule I don't like to lie and I insist on telling the truth. There may be the odd occasion whereby it would be beneficial to tell porkies so as not to hurt someone, choosing the lesser of two evils as some may say! I don't think it's a good thing anyhow as it can really lead to serious complications in your life! I'm sure that there are some people in the world that make a career out of lying and this is all their life is based on now, not very healthy in my view as I'm pretty sure they are constantly looking over their shoulder! I agree with you. Basically we lie because either we do not want to be caught for what we did wrong or forbidden or for us not to hurt others feeling when we tell the truth. The reason for lying is a case to case basis. Meaning, it depends on the situation involved.

People lie because...... they want to avoid hurting others as you mentioned. not just to avoid hurting others but to avoid being hurt as well. White lies. Like a cheating husband to his wife. Instead of telling her the truth about his extra marital affairs, he lies to avoid hurting his wife and being hurt as well in the process. Another reason would be like the other one you mentioned. They are just really liars. Those who lie as a habit are serial liars already. It's not good and it really means how selfish you are. I do lie at times and I feel sorry about it. Best of luck

Hi, kenchiprincess. They lie, because they don't know how to tell the truth. They are afraid of what telling the truth can do to them. They are people that are not trustworthy at all. It is not acceptable, because many people have been hurt and killed from being lied to. It is always best to tell the truth no matter what.

I don't care what the reason is when people lie as long as they don't step on me. I lie. I lie to women to make myself look good. I lie to kids to keep them innocent. I lie to human resources representative to get the job. What i don't like is when people lie to other people's faces and even lie about their lying. I can tell a lie when i see one. I've even proven people wrong against their remarks but there really are some who act as if they haven't lied since birth. These people are the ones that really makes me sad. They lie, and they lie about lying. And they lie about lying about lying. You get the picture.. I'm a liar to some point but i'm still a realist. I doubt people will quit lying but they can at least be honest about their lies. I think it's more decent than to be a hypocrite.

Yes that is one of the reason. Lying to avoid hurting the person. But in my experience, co-workers and bosses lie, to protect their careers and position.

people lie for different reasons.some lie to make themselves look good others lie to cover up problem,there are some who lie because they don,t l like to be wronged.now we have our impulsive lair who just lie about everything.these ones need help professionally.so like i said there are many reason why people lie.

I understand if person tells lie if he or she doesn't want to hurt someone or any critical conditions where he has to by any chance. But, people tells lie to make the conditions worse than now, just for having fun, to put another in trouble and survive without putting any effort by themselves. They get benefited, they become habitual for that

hi friend. i was just recently to biggest fatuous liar out there and you know that. i can't surmise why and how people would go to that extent of deceiving and scheming. it brings up the bile up my throat! i have been brought up with the right values and one of them is being honest and telling a lie is a sin, that's in the Bible. i hope his lying ways will come to end and very soon before more people are duped.

There may be many reason that the peoples tells a lie but I think most of the peoples tells a lie to show that they are only the great and powerful and all others are only below him. Sometimes it is because of to save theirself from any punishment also. There may not be be the reason to heart to someone.

Some people have gotten used to lying that it is so easy for them to lie to anyone. It is already a habit that is hard to die, so to speak. That is why we have swindlers, thieves, unfaithfulness, etc. They all start with simple lies.

I think people tell lies out of habit too. I know I tell little lies just to keep my husband quiet when he starts nagging on. If you think about it we are lied to from a very young age. Our parents ell us about father christmas, the easter bbunny and the tooth fairy.

PErsonally i lie for few reasons.To prevent further embrassement,to prevent esacalation of problem,to prevent to get in trouble and scolding, to prevent further hurt to another people.BEside that to reduce cost and lost of money,to escape bodily harm, to coverup for other people.Lying is not totally selfish in my opinion,soemtime we have to lie or not be too honest to prevent other people from getting hurt.

Liars may lie to protect themselves or someone close to them from physical harm or scorn. Some liars may not even know why they lie, or even that they are lying. Their lying may now be a sickness so they are not even aware that they are lying. Their lying takes on new dimensions so they not only lie about events that have taken place already, but they expand their lies to include future commitments. a lie is a lie no matter what the reason is. some justify their lies by saying that like what you have said its better that way and what others don't know won't hurt. some are just covering for truths to protect someone or something. and yeah some are just liars and those habitual liars are the type that i hate the most. some thought that by lying they may avoid hurting someone's feelings but what they didn't know is that they will be just hurting them more.

I really think a lot of the time that people who lie, they really do not believe that they are lying. I mean, deep down, they most likely know, unless they are really deluded. However, if a lie is repeated enough, people can convinced that it may in fact be the truth. Including people who tell the lie. The human mind works in strange ways. Plus people are such accomplished liars, that they cannot help themselves. In fact, to an extent, if they are telling the truth, they might convince themselves that is a lie. If you lie often enough, then your mind can get twisted into believing that the truth is in fact the lie. Believe me, I have known people who are like this without fail. Living in a delusional world can be nice. Still it is not acceptable to lie. Plus, I think its much less work to tell the truth than to lie. The consequences of telling the truth and upsetting people will be far less then telling a lie and the people later finding out that you were full of it. Its much easier to forgive the truth coming out right away, no matter how harsh it is, then a lie coming out and then it being exposed. Life will be much easier that way.

Yeah people do lie because they can and they like to lie.The reason why other people are doing that because they dont want to put themselves in trouble , and they want a shortcut to their problem and that is to lie, they feel that if they will lie then they will escape the situation.But they do not know the bad effect of lying to themselves and the people around us. If your so used to lie to someone then theres this possibility that people will never trust you anymore.And trust is very important for just bout anything without it its more like you will never be complete or you will never be happy living this life knowing that people dont trust you at all

People tend to lie to be protective.

Me honestly I made lies, white lies for the reason not to hurt my loved ones. And I think whatever is the reason of our lies, it's still not acceptable in the eyes of the Lord, its still a sin.
