A kissing competition was recently held at Zheng Xingyuan Mall, in the city of Xi'an in northern China's Shaanxi province. It was not the usual kissing competition where couples are asked to snog as long as possible duration but to come up with the most difficult kissing position as well. The prize money may be a mere £90 but at the current exchange rate it is worth RMB888 which is quite a lot but an auspicious prosperity figure. However, it is not the prize money or the winning couple's long time duration or the winning couple's impressive adopted kissing position but it is that the eventual winners were a couple who were actually total strangers before the contest. I just cannot help feel reeling with utter amazement at this disclosure which is sending a telling message of today's couples or lovers. Isn't this a little worrying? picbug, Kissing, even in the open or public is no longer uncommon or regarded a taboo in the Chinese community especially in the urban areas. However, I am just concern about the social and moral issues here. It is very telling here about how people take and view relationship and it is not encouraging.

Yes, indeed its worrying. As time is going, people aren't loving eachother, they are loving money more! People just want more money and not love. They just don't have even time to talk to each other. And kissing is a means to show one's love for another! How can two strangers do the best kissing? That's ridiculous.

mafra4u, Money is secondary here, I am more concern about the social and moral developments of today's world. And this contest does have a lot of implications as far as social morals is concern and the message is not very encouraging. I hope we are not walking backwards here.

Hey sky! This is kind of bizarre! It would be weird enough to kiss someone who you are in a relationship with, but to just pick a stranger? Well, ok now! I know that there are alot of crazy people out there that will do just about anything for money, but this is a bit extreme, or maybe not! If is just a kiss! I think it is kind of ok I guess if the two people are in agreement and really want that cash!lol

Its not so bad as it encourages couples to do something together and the aim of the contest wasn't to kiss a stranger. I guess I'd have more of a problem with it if it was one of those "kiss as many people as you can" kinds of games. £90 isnt very much though. Its barely enough to give up a day's work to go to do the competition so I think it is a little pointless.

la_chique, I cannot help wondering why and how the organizers did not stipulate proper rules for the contest which without it could just lead to immoral implications and abuse. It is evident that social propriety is degenerating where loving and committed couples are undermined and disregarded to a frivolous trip of promiscuity. No wonder divorce and breakup rates are growing. Worrying, isn't it?
