Hi MyLotters. I would just like to know and be a little enlightened. How much knowledge and understanding do you know about the Bible? I personally do not read too much Bible. Back in the years, we were taught about the Good News and the stories in it. We were asked to memorize the different Bible verses and chapters. I really have poor memory, and I do not remember any of those anymore. It's quite a shame that I do not remember the facts of the holy scripture. Are you the kind of a person who would religiously implant in your memory the verses of the Bible and all? I don't know if i should be ashamed telling that I know Harry Potter (or any fictional books) better than the Bible.

I'm an Atheist, and I've been through the bible quite a few times, although the only chapters that I know fairly well are Genesis, Leviticus and Exodus. I know those chapters mostly because of the massive amounts of errors and madness in them. It's pretty strange, if you ask me, that people follow it in such a devout way, it seems pretty obvious that it's more a work of fiction, mostly stories that were passed down generation after generation, like a game of telephone, around the world. It really is a fiction book, with similarities to things like Harry Potter. I mean, people get intelligence from talking to a snake then eating an evil apple? That's not something that happens in real life.

Lots of people can quote holy text word for word but very few people can understand the meaning and how it should apply to their lives and that is what is more important than being able to recall it word for word. If you don't have understanding than being a walking record means nothing.

I know my Bible enough to find verses and scriptures when I need to, I need to memorize some scriptures for teaching and for comforting others but other than I feel I can do on my own, I will like to remember exactly what chapter and verse immediately bit OI but find them.

I have been reading the Bible ever since as a child. My mom aroused my interest in the Bible. Later when I read some chapters on God being angry and speaking about revenge, etc., I was considerably disillusioned. Much later, I realized that not everything in the Bible is true. I began seeing the Bible as 'Word of God'. The 'Word of God' is God's covenant with man. Under this covenant, "God gave his word, God kept His word, and He came to abide amongst men as His own Son". When I realized this, I began to see the Bible in its true perspective. After that, I gave an importance to only some chapters of the Bible, not all. I cannot quote Bible verses off hand as most preachers do. However, I know where what is written and in what way it is relevant. I regard Jesus Christ as my savior. I believe He is the Son of God. If I will believe in Him, He will save me from Sins and through Him alone, I can have an eternal life.

definitely not as much as i would like to. but in order to remember verses in the Bible, it is good to keep repeating them over and over. also, if you wanted to read more, there are sites that tell you how to read the whole Bible in a year.

I know my bible well. I spent a few years in a Jewish university so feel I am pretty well versed but then again I remember learning that the more one learns the less one knows hehe. I feel its not so important to remember the exact quote but rather where it is found, it allows access at anytime and you will never misquote. Its never too late to start learning if you want. Have a great day
