This is not the first incident of this kind, I suspect it will not be the last either as tensions escalate between Mexico and the U.S. Once again, our border agents have come under threats from the Mexican military. At one time people would have considered this an act of war. If our own government does not see this as a threat, why have the states on the border or the people not taken arms to protect our country? Even the most pacifist amongst our fellow citizens have to realize there comes a time when we MUST defend ourselves. this is not some far off foreign lad in the middle east we have nothing to do with, for phouque sake this is our homeland.
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP)
— "Pointing their rifles, Mexican security forces chased away U.S. authorities investigating the shooting of a 15-year-old Mexican by a U.S. Border Patrol agent on the banks of the Rio Grande, the FBI and witnesses told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The killing of the Mexican by U.S. authorities — the second in less than two weeks — has exposed the distrust between the two countries that lies just below the surface, and has enraged Mexicans who see the death of the boy on Mexican soil as an act of murder.
Shortly after the boy was shot, Mexican soldiers arrived at the scene and pointed their guns at the Border Patrol agents across the riverbank while bystanders screamed insults and hurled rocks and firecrackers, FBI spokeswoman Andrea Simmons said. She said the agents were forced to withdraw......"

I am certain most countries would close the border for a day or two in response so such a wild action and demand a public apology from the Mexicans. Its sad the kid was killed, everyone I am sure is mourning him but the actions of Mexico are not mature or justified.

I am trying to imagine what would happen if the New Hampshire National Guard was making incursions in to Quebec. Or What would happen if I strolled across the Quebec border and started hurling rocks at a Canadian border agent. I imagine the response would not be a very pleasant one.

I'm not very clear as to why the boy was shot. Regardless, they have no business threatening our agents in that way. We really need a solid border between the two countries. I don't see Mexico getting upset at the murder of that poor rancher or countless others who have been raped, killed and injured by illegal immigrants.

I agree with you. Once they leave mexico they don't really care as its not their problem anymore.

For the record they don't care if it happens IN Mexico either so long as Americans are the victims. Just read about the American fishermen who have been mugged by Mexican pirates.

See how the government of Mexico treats their migrants (from Amnesty International, a very liberal organization)...

The last thing we need is another war, and being in America I'm sure the last thing you guys need is a war with a country so close to you. I'm not sure it would be seen as an act of war as well as the boy wasn't anyone important, sad but true. If he had been some kind of official than a war might come from it but as he wasn't it's just another source of tension between the two countries.

This is about as close to an act of war as you can get. I mean, these guys were actively on the border pointing weapons at our troops while Mexican civilians attacked us. We need a wall, we need troops on the border, and we need them now because this isn't just about illegal immigration anymore, we're talking about hostile troops who came close to instigating an actual war between the two countries.
Anyone else sitting here wondering why our president hasn't even bothered to make a statement about this? Oh... that's right. Because the rest of the media isn't covering it and he has his sheep believing that nothing said on Fox News is true.

They didn't say boo about that Mexican Naval helicopter that decided to take a joy ride over Brownsville Texas either. Or the time a few cops were shot at by them. Or the time our national guard came under fire from them. What the hell is it gonna take, rocket attacks?

This is a really tough situation when people live in a country that they are so desperate to leave that they are willing to risk their lives. However, when large numbers of illegal mexicans flow into this country and aren't able to legalize and find well paying work and/or affluency then they often become burdens to the social system that exists. They commit crimes, live in deplorable conditions, become users of charity and welfare systems. A considerable number of the illegal immigrants that reside in the US never learn the full use of the english language. Some of the illegal immigrants that come here seem to be under the impression that america is some sort of land that is full of riches that are attainable to anyone that lives here. There are some mexican immigrants that do come over the border and experience some kind of success, but that is not the majority. I think that to maintain the availibilty of resources to needy american citizens and to reduce alien born crimes that the borders need to be protected with assertiveness. I am in favor of arizona's tougher enforcement of illegal immigration. I feel a great deal of sympathy for the people of mexico who want to leave to go to some place better, but the problems that keep occuring need to be fixed.

Slightly off topic perhaps, but if Mexico would take care of its citizens, they wouldn't feel as if they had to come to the US to look for opportunities.
As far as the shooting, if it was truly on the American side and the boys were attacking Border Patrol agents with rocks, I'm tempted to say "Darwin awards". Maybe it was inappropriate use of force, maybe not, but you just don't go attacking armed agents and expect to be left alone.
If it was on the Mexican side, our agents have something to answer for.
As for the enraged Mexicans, I wonder how they would feel if it were the other way around. American boy crosses border and starts throwing rocks at Mexican agents. Agents shoot boy...
