Has anyone had a "frozen shoulder"? What did you do to help it?

My doctor sent me to an orthopedic specialist because of pain in my shoulder. He said I have a "frozen shoulder". He gave me a cordisone shot in the back of the shoulder and some exercises to do. Is there anything else that you or someone you know has done to help this condition?

oh. I am sorry for you. The pain must have been horrible, and making you mad..
could you not press the de freeze button? -- just teasing.
now, .. as you have rightly said about exercises.. Please be careful. Do that under the supervision and guidance of some physio therapist or ortho doctor.
goodluck, and speedy recovery.

I wish it was that simple, to have a de freeze button! Talk about giving someone the cold shoulder!!! : ) lol
I can't put my right arm behind my back AT ALL. I can move it up, down and to the right and left without too much trouble. But, if I try to put something on a high shelf or reach very far to the left with my right hand it hurts. I can't reach as high with my right arm. AND I am right handed!
One of the worst things for me is that I can't sleep on my right side at all which was the side I slept on most before this happened. It just hurts a LOT when I try to do that. I wake myself up at night when I roll over to that side by mistake.
The doctor didn't mention a physical therapist. He just said come back in a month (for another cortisone shot I guess). Maybe he's waiting to see if the cortisone alone and some exercises I do myself will work. I don't want the expense of a physical therapist either if I can help it. It does feel a little bit better today after the cortisone shot. I hope it continues to improve.
Thanks for your reply and your good wishes.

hahaha about the cold-shoulder and the de-freezer fun.
I would still recommend you to visit a chiropracter or a physio therapist. It would save you a lot of trouble in the coming years.
also consume good loads of calcium based natural food.

It sounds funny, sounds like your shoulder is covered with ice and snow! You'll look like a snowman with that! But I know it's not real funny... Your condition is not real funny... I know how you feel and I feel the same for you. Cheer up, I know by following the advice of the doctors and other experts, you will be able to melt those ice and snow and on your shoulder!

Gently keep it moving. I broke my shoulder and would finger my way up the sheet to get the shoulder to gently move up and down.
If you go for therapy, be sure to take some pain medication first, it will help to make movement less painful and therefore you will get a fuller range of motion easier and quicker.

I'm trying to keep it moving. He said to "stretch it out" as much as I can. The nurse said to grab a towel behind my back with both hands and gently move my right arm as far as possible with my left hand pulling the towel. Haven't tried that one yet, but I've done the other exercises they gave me such as walking my fingers up the wall. My left arm can go about 8 or 9 inches higher up the wall than the "frozen" right arm can go.
Thanks for the tip to take pain medication before I go to a therapist. If I end up going to one at all I'll do that.
It's very frustrating because I have so much to get done right now and need a good right arm to do it. I'll just have to be more patient with myself.
Thank you also for your reply and your good advice, Sally.
