Are we Christians turning others away from God?

As a Christian I believe in the teachings of Jesus. Sometimes, I worry that my own actions and those of my fellow Christians may be turning others away from God. If a non believer sees you talking bad about someone or being rude to others-why in the world would they want to become a Christian? Don't we owe it to God to treat others with respect-the way Jesus would?

I'm a non-believer, and from my perspective, some of the things that "turn me off" Christianity that I see especially in Christian media are: 1. The TV channels seem to spend more time begging for money than they do talking about God. 2. The "pray and get rich" message that so many ministers like to push - now, my Bible knowledge is virtually zero, but didn't Jesus ask his disciples to GIVE UP all that they had - including their material wealth - to follow him? 3. The general lack of knowledge and respect that various Christian ministers and self-proclaimed "experts" show for other religions - they seem to think "I'm right and you're wrong!" is a good enough way to argue, rather than explaining their arguments and theories...assuming they have any. 4. The idea that anything non-Christian is automatically "bad", "evil" or "occult". Now, I'm sure there are many Christians who don't behave this way or go to these extremes, but as lallen99 implies - impressions count, and unfortunately, a lot of what I see is negative.

I think that we all owe it to each other to treat each other with as much respect as we can possibly show each other when we don't agree. I have recently went back to God in hopes that my experience that I have gained from Buddism will help me become a better follower of God. I do believe that God being as wise as he was created/appeared to people from around the world to people in a way that he know he would be responded to the best. I think that all Religions are different paths to the same end. There are some religions that are more like Cults but you can tell a religion from a Cult your heart knows the different. Religions are created by a supernatural force. A cult has a founder/leader who directs everything controls everything. I know what I said above may anger some others who are Christians but these are my beliefs. I would say look into the other religions of the earth and they all have similar stories and similar words they are all interlinked somehow. The Spiritual dimensions of this world is far more complex than the sum of any one religious text can really go into.

i agree with you thats why we as Christian need to be careful in everything we do and be an example to non believers, because we are accountable to them. we want a non believer comes to Jesus if we as believer behave like a non believer how we can convince them right? as Jesus said love your enemy so if you face in a trouble and you think you will just bring disgrace to God, before you do it think of a way out. Godbless
