Dear Buddies... I am sorry I have not been on myLot for quite a while, due to my office. The office timings have changed again and now I leave my office in the middle of the night... I am going to narrate an incident and I require your opinion as what can be done! I can't give names or any specific information for the sake of safty of the victim...
Yesterday night, after we were finished with our duty we came out of the premises to smoke cigarettes and discuss the work issues, just as we do everyday. Yesterday night, at 2.00 am we came out as usual and had lit our cigarettes when one of our colleagues was attacked by a gang of 8-10 people and abducted. Horrible!!! Today morning, I met him and found him wounded but alive. He has undergone rough usage, has been manhandled and beaten. He will come to office today with wounds; according to the company policy he can't take a leave for a few months. We know who they are and why did they do this! But hopelessly, we are so powerless to do anything... He is going to be in constant danger for some time now... I am worried!!!
What would you do in such a situation? Legal help is of NO use at all.. It is going to cause more harrassment than help... How is it in your country? What would you do in such a situation?

Can't you do anything to get the company to post a guard? Here they would do that for fear of a lawsuit?
If you can't do that, can you alert the police and ask them to stop by every so often?

Hi Dawnald... Thank you for sharing and for your advice... We have already thought about that option. The company has nothing to do with us, once the office time is over. There is a guard always, outside the gates. But he is busy looking after the people who go inside, and those who come outside. I am sure he noticed but neglected...
The legal protectors can be easily bought, here; and in this case, I am sure that they have received their rewards for ignoring the matter... Feel so helpless!!!

Hmmm.... That isn't a bad idea, but when I think about the guard, I doubt whether he'll really be able to guard anyone of us or himself. He's an old man (a retired soldier though), maybe over 65... He has only a thick stick in his hands... And we're up against guys with way dangerous weapons than that... We're thinking about other ways too...

That sucks. Don't suppose you can all pool your money for a suitable bribe for the guard?

As usual due to your country's policies and laws, you can do nothing.
Since I don't know the particulars of his beating or why he was beaten...all I can say is stand clear yourself..............for various reasons.......
Talk to this man but keep your distance as you too can be pin pointed with this man and his dealings. At this point you of all people need not be more involved than to offer him physical help and that is ALL.
Keep your self clean and calm.
Stay clear. You have more important things to look forward to.

Im confused. Why cant he go to the police if he knows who's responsible? His company should set up security for all its employees. Every company should make sure their employees enter and exit safely. Especially at midnight hours. I would sue if they dont provide security. He'll win. Then he'll own the company and be sure to have security and fire all those who didnt help him. Does your company want that? I wonder..... dl

Hi DL... Thanks for your wonderful reply... I am sure it would have been possible in any other country, but here things are hopeless. The legal system slow and corrupted... One can't expect any help from law... That is the last place that one can think about to seek help... The judiciary system is slower than anything... A case can go for years in our courts... And still the decision remains pending... Your suggestion is the best DL, but can't be implemented...

Hi, mr_pearl. I know that this may be rough on you. But you have to contact the police and give them a full description of the attackers. Did your colleague ever tell you where did they take him when they kidnapped him? Did he remember this incident well? Kidnapping is a huge crime. I am so sorry that you had to witness this. And I know that going to the police could make matters worse because these men may have other guys that are involved into their gang too. They may not have been present when this happened, but they may know how to find you and any other colleague that witnessed this attack and kidnapping. Going to the police is about the best way so that these people will all be held liable for what they have done. I am glad that you are okay. Take care and stay safe as much as possible.

Hi Cream... thanks for your concern ... We have thought about seeking help from law. But its going to be of no use at all... The authorities are B*ibed... And hence, they'll take little notice of our plight... Money works wonderfully here... I am at my wits' end as to what can be done...
Thanks a lot for sharing...

why won't he be given protection by your company? is your company legit? most companies, if not all, have the responsibility of protecting their employee. this happened in the middle of the work hours. even if it happened outside the premises, the mere fact that he was reporting for work, the company should give assistance.
also, how ruthless it is for your management not to give the guy days off from work. he was beaten, for Christ's sake. just my personal blurb, i wouldn't work for a company who won't show protection for its people.
you said you know who did this horrible thing to your friend. you can give a list of suspect. do not be afraid of the threats. the law ought to protect you. you can have these people on the police's blotter list. this will give your friend a sense of protection because they wouldn't dare hurt him again because they are on the watch list.
your friend shouldn't hide under the fear. make noise. make the people be aware of what happened to him (if he would personally give you permission) so that the suspects would be a little apprehensive because they know that people are aware.
you have to do everything to get him protected in right ways. do not just let him take cover under the threats.
i hope he's always safe. he should be surrounded with friends and other people so that it would minimize potential risks.

Hi friend... Thanks for the kind and logical reply... We don't expect much from the legal authorities... All this has happened through family feud and the authorities are biased and bribed... we can't expect them to help; I fear, they'll make the matter worse... The company has nothing to do with the employees once the office timings are over... The 'OFF' policy is the most stringent here... For the first 6 months, we get no leaves for any reason... And we've been there only for 3 months... Things're tough... :(

I don´t understand your story because although in my country, as in everywhere, there´s violence, when we know you they are there´s the police. Why can´t legal help be of any use? How come your place of work will not give you leave if you are sick or wounded? It is a world I don´t understand so I can´t give an opinion. Please, explain further, if you can! I am very sorry this happens.

Hi Marguicha... thanks for sharing... I trust you're not fully aware how it is here... Yes, there are cops! But people are bought here... I hope you know what I mean... Bribery is all over the place.. And no help can be obtained... My friend isn't capable financially... All he can do now is to disappear and go to some other nation...
