this definitely a lot of money. for a poor country like ours this is very valuable especially to those who can not afford to eat three times a day. i think this is too much to spend on making floats and extravagant costumes. don't you think? instead of making a very lavish expenditures on floats that will be dumped after the parade why not sponsor schools that are still in need of repairs until now. why not contribute that money for the betterment of something else? Independence Day could be more meaningful if that amount of money is exhausted in more significant way...

hi ersanmiguel, I agree with, 10M is too much, where there are lot of areas which can benefit for that money. But we cannot also blame Filipinos for really celebrating the Independence day, perhaps we can celebrate it without spending too much. Anyhow the 10M is i think budgeted already, so better spend it than having it kept in the pockets of corrupt politicians. Better philippines in benigno noy2x aquino administration.. Let us all pray and hope for the best

hi eds282006, i think its not realistic to consider that point of view now. do you think hacienderos would willing to give out percentage of their lands or businessman would give their shares..owhzzzz well if that will happen great, but for me.. management or should I say governance. I think this is the immediate problem we should have sold because the rest will just follow.. sometimes I told myself filipinos are all wise, correct, with pride thats why we always criticize each other..how will we grow if we have this attitude..and with Crab Mentality this is really hindrance..With regards to the 10M it is already budgeted with gloria adminstration last year, so better blame gloria for allocating a budget that much for there are more areas which needs attention.. They could have used the budget in education sector...

hi eds282006, agree with you no equality in this world , but that is what you call life..with regards to independence day, job fair is very nice idea or feeding program.. perhaps we can tell our budget secretaries and little arroyo about it.. well, good if the 10Million was really spent for the celebration not in the pockets of corrupt government officials.. as to our government system.. LOSER!!, they are giving intelligence money with no projects.. each official has its own intelligence money and they issue that in special programs and it is not audited.. corruption really is one of our problem.. hoping for Aquino administration we can achieve a better philippines.. have a great evening..

The 10M to be spent for Independence day is too much. I am sure, half or more than half of that amount will go to other people's money (politicians I suppose). The lavish expenditure is not worth to be spent for that celebration alone. Why not they instead give it to the poor people as seed money for business?

Our government really has it all wrong, I don't see why we should expend 10M pesos to useless events and events the country would forget after a day. I know that it's important to celebrate our independence day, but wouldn't it be more fitting if we celebrate it with less expenses, and use the money for more important things like education and food for the poor... Just thinking about the 10M is making me really mad. That's a lot of money gone to waste.

I totally agree with you.. Hopefully the next administration would get it right, and use the money for more important things like education and food.

It makes me mad... It's like all too superficial now. If they really want to show off, why don't they use the money for things that actually matter. We should celebrate the real meaning of Independence, not rub it faces that we have 10 million to spend on a holiday some Filipinos do not even have appreciation and real knowledge of. Why don't they provide more programs for those who need it. Why not grant more scholarships. Why not feed people suffering from malnutrition. Why not provide assistance to the unemployed. Why not truly be independent of poverty, apathy, ignorance- the things that oppress us?

hello ersamiguel, maybe we should check on plans made by these organizers, too bad the "Freedom of information" we wouldn't how much exactly was used and who actually benefit from this program. the celebration was all about Gloria's achievements and not the independence itself. it should have been more of a history parade and not some corny parade about gloria.

Save money for Food - Money should be safe from unnecssary celebrationmoney saved can be for food for the poor.
Ya,in my country , for the last few indenpendence day and new year celebration were pull back and become of smaller scale because money contristion . The huge amount spend on customes and fire works is not worth the money spend especailly those money is from our tax collection.Floats are removed instead various company just sent in staffs to march in the capital.Money safe can be better utilize for road repairs, school repairs, buy medicine for our government hospitals and such.I totally agree such grand scale celebration should be reduce and removed in this age of economic recovery from bad stage.

Why can't we just spend Independence day without spending money? My plan on celebrating the independence day is to make a mosaic with egg shells, of the Philippine flag. Lolllz. I so have nothing to do.

I agree with you, 10M is a lot to spend on a celebration. I heard over the news that they were going to showcase the achievements, if any, by the Arroyo administration. Again, she is going to spend our hard-earned money just to make herself look good. You're right, it can be better spent somewhere else like books for the students who really need it. GMA is bent on bleeding the coffers dry before she leaves. I hope she does not get any pork barrel when she becomes congresswoman.

yeah, the parade will highlight the infrastructure her gov't had developed. it's as if she funded those?

this is what i also notice on our government. they spend too much on some celebrations. why they dont want to become more practical. why not use the money on some activities that will benefit our fellow filipino. i hope that this practice on the next government will be suppressed.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard about this. 10M?? This is for today, June 12, right? That's a lot of money. Actually, when you think about it, the government has a lot of money. They collect 30% from our income and 12% from our consumption. The thing is, they pocket the money that is why we feel like the government doesn't have savings but in reality, the have a lot of money (for personal use) HAHA

I agree with you 10M is a big money for a celebration, specially if much of it was used in decorative purposes and costume, those things can make the celebration extravagant yet can't feed people who are hungry :(
