Have you ever tried or been offered to eat something gross like a worm, chocolate covered cockroaches, a beetle or something nasty like that? I know on survivor they make you eat all types of weird stuff like that. I know in some cultures it is normal to eat all types of food that are not seen as "regular" food. Someone once tried to offer me snake meat and I politely said "no thank you!".
