Hello everyone,
After months again here in myLot seeing some same good old friends...
Just a small thought flashed my mind suddenly. Am I content with what I have? I said to myself 'no'... Why we always in need of something?
Are you happy with your earnings, job, family, etc.?.. Do you think if we need something, we can achieve something?
Without needs, there is nothing to achieve in life... Right?
Please share your thoughts on this....
Have a nice weekend...Cheers...

Great to hear from you again phillip_shiny! Personally I do feel content with what I have, in fact as I am getting older I am simplifying my life and I don’t seem to need as much as I used to because, for some reason some of the things that seemed really important a few years ago have slipped right down my priority list.
It is natural to want more and there is nothing wrong with setting goals for ourselves or working hard toward something we want as long as we don’t take for granted all the great things we already do have!

hello, you're right, it's just natural, but too much is not good too.so, we should learn to control ourselves and see if what we want is something really that important, something that wouldn't compromise what we have today.

Hi Phillip and welcome back!
I am content with what I have, especially when I see others that are struggling and have less or have problems which do not allow them to have as much as I have. I don't need more but it would be nice to be able to have some extra
I am happy with my job. I enjoy it and what I earn with it is more than enough topay the bills and everyday running costs. It allows me to have extra time too and with some of that time I am online for my hobby. I am inline to earn extra which I wil not use for offline things and I save all my earnings. I don't need them but I watch them grow and when the time comes I can use them for something very special.

No, people have no contentment and that is normal I guess. We never stop from there, from getting what we want. I do have a list of what I want in my life I want to achieve that in near time and i am very serious about it. I really believe if we need something we can really achieved it. Without needs life will be boring and unchallenged.

"Without needs life will be boring and unchallenged." Really I appreciate it... Achievement really had to have needs. So, we must have needs... Also challenging life needs "needs"...
Nice to have you here... Have a happy day...

I am content with a lot of things, but one thing I am not content with is how much I earn online. I feel like I earn hardly anything and I feel so sad as I want to help my husband out with income. I am going to be finding a job though as I know that that is the onlu surefire way to good earnings, and of course I'll stay here online.
I hate not being content with the money I earn here, and I guess in recent days I've found out and started to remember how horrid it was to work outside of the home, but I know I must do so.

Hello Phillip,
It's been a while, good thing you came back, so hows life by the way are you contented with it
the only thing i want now is to get a job. trouble is am trying so hard to motivate myself to have one. people like me sometimes think of needing something else besides what i have.
but the one thing that kept me from being obsess with things is that seeing people not having what i have now made me realize that i am still blessed and should be contented with my life.

Hey letran,
I really missed all you guys... I am really not contented with what I have now.
The same thing as your need is also mine... I need a job. what you said is really a definition for content. If you wanna be content, see people that really don't have the things you have,,,.. Really that is nice,,,..
Cheers again..... Have a nice day...

It isn't wrong to dream of better things, you know, but there's a difference between striving to achieve what you want and wanting everything without control. Yes, I am content with what I have, although I also dream of having a better life someday, and I'm working towards that :)

Just yesterday. I have the most sincere conversation with God and myself.
I went to church yesterday morning. I just went in their and poured my heart out.
I told Him that I know I have been selfish lately because whatever I got right now, all of these has happened because of His grace and unconditional love.
I also asked for His forgiveness because no matter how I try, I hardly appreciate His blessings. And I felt so unsettled in many ways.
I hope it's safe to say that we would never be content. It will be an ongoing process for us to find what we are looking for in life.
I feel so empty right now. Even though I have a good home, good friends, good food to eat and etc. I still feel that I lack something that could ignite the will of fire in my life. Purpose, I guess.
Just like you, Phil. I am also in the search. I hope someday, not long enoguh though, we may find what we are really looking for. And I hope that once we find it, we'll go back in this good discussion and may share that wonderful moment.
Cheers. =)

I think this tends to be a common thing in life. We are conditioned by society to always be wanting something more, because we are taught to create ambition very early in life and this follows us through our entire life. I have even seen very elderly people who still aspire to making life better.
As a Zen practitioner I am learning to transcend desire. Buddha who first formulated zazen (Zen meditation) under the Boddhi Tree discovered that desire is the source of all suffering and that if we can cease desire, we will realize total contentment, which is very spiritual. This is not an easy taskd and many people do not want to follow that path... yet. _Derek

Not really. maybe they are things which could make me happy while some things are not just enough or still need to work hard to achieve. it is then i could feel more relax. Their are many needs to improve or learn that need to dealt with since nothing is constant and need to find ways to obtain or to gain for my own satisfaction and for others to benefit.

You are absolutely correct when it comes to this subject, if we don't have things that we aspire to achieve in our lives, then we really don't have anything to live for. I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up and for a very long time that was the goal that I was trying to achieve. However, as it always does, my dreams changed and the goals that I was trying to reach have changed. I am beyond college age now, but there are still things that I desire to achieve.

Hi,
With regard to the main query - I am contented with what I have now. However, its but normal for everybody to aspire more, since, we are not just living alone for our selves. Like for example, if you are only single, for sure, you would aspire something better for you and for your family. Then if you are married, still, you want a prosperous life for your wife and children.
On the other hand, as for me, if I will be living only for my self, I can say that I am now contented. But, since, I am not only living for myself, so I guess, I am not that contented. And for sure, nobody will claim that he or she is contented enough for what he/she has right now. And if there is one, maybe he or she is just satisfied in a very, very simple life.

The most richest person in my mind is he who is contended with what you have.
This is rare quality which one has.We come across several people who have plenty of desires which are not fulfilled. And with this batch of unfulfilled desires they add some more and finally land into trouble.
The happiest thing in life is to be contended with what we have.

Normally I always try to say to myself that I don't need much to be happy, well not much material objects. So I'm content with I have materially but not in the sense that I still haven't seen enough of the world or done enough to change it. I'm recently gone vegetarian so that makes me more content with myself but not fully yet.

Yes! I'm beginning to realise the importance of this idea! I think it's important to always be grateful for what we have. My mindset has changed over the years regarding this. I would never be grateful and I guess I would be surrounded by all things negative including my thoughts, my character and my general outlook on life!
Thankfully I saw the light a few years back! There are those in life that are quite materialistic! That's to say they only consider themselves happy when they have all the nice things whether it be the latest gadgets or whatever! I have to confess that I am a little like this myself I mean why wouldn't I be? When you have nice things you are happy and you consider it an achievement for having attained them. However, I come to realise that I should be giving thanks deep inside for what I have and this keeps me in the state of contentment.
I give thanks for the air that I breathe, I give thanks for the fact that I am alive! There are so many things that we could be grateful for in our own lives, we just have to look around us. Generally, I'm quite content inside now and I'm so much happier than I used to be. I think that it's important to focus on the positive always. I heard a saying that, if you are grateful for what you already have in life then it's more than likely that you will attract more of what you want into you life and you can be grateful for those things as well! Just a thought! Andrew

I am happy with most areas of my life, I guess. I am in a happy marriage and have 4 children. I wish we had some more money though, as that causes us a few worries. Also I really wish we owned a house, instead of having to rent, as I hate renting!

Hello, hi..
i want to share something about what u said....
I questioned myself the same like you... always we are concentrating on earning the money leaving our family and everything, and we r working like robots....
in my concern.... all of the things mentioned above are nothing... and we need something more than that, what is it?
i have a answer for all the doubts..... only god can fulfill our needs...
so believe in god.
