am I becoming deaf or what?

This one sounds funny because many times I was thinking that I was losing my hearing. A lot of times people say something and I don't get it, and I would ask them to repeat what they said. I notice that many times some people say words the wrong way, so I don't get it. One time, a group of local beauty contestants guested in one place and the organizer asked me if there will be "males" available. So I said "males"? Do they need esc*rts or partners? And the g*y organizer repeated, "No, males, I mean food". Oh, MEALS. Isn't that hilarious? I was thinking of males and he's thinking of food and saying it the wrong way. Another time I was taking this public transport and another passenger told the driver her destination and she said "Stage". So I was thinking, where is this "Stage"? Is there a new place perhaps that I don't know? The driver understood her (much to my surprise) and she asked her which branch? Branch? So this particular "Stage" has branches and I did not know anything about it? When the lady gave the address of this establishment, I finally got her. She actually meant "STED'S". It is a 24/7 convenience store in our place with 3 branches. Funny, isn't it? Sometimes I'd think I must be getting deaf, but it's mostly how people say the words that make me deal. LOLz. Any similar experience?

You have a very funny experience out there but I am sure that you are not deaf. We have similar experience where I misheard the word coffee from a cover. I was once a cadet officer where our commandant ordered me to buy some coffee. He has a lot of instructions that I got confused and I seem like to hear buying a plastic cover. So I did went to the school supply and brought the plastic cover. When I have return, they laugh at me and I was happy that I made them laugh instead of being punished for the mistake. So my commandant had re-instated his order telling me to buy a coffee with a cover that has a good brand. I immediately went back to buy that product.

I am not surprise that you find that funny as well because indeed it is funny. However, they no longer want to order me around because they have the feeling that I might carry out the order in the wrong manner. I was treated as the clown from the group where it seems that most of my actions are funny. It all started from that simple mistake, turning the coffee into a cover.

Even here in the US there are different dialects that can create a bit of confusion, especially if a local dialect goes helter skelter into oblivion from us standard English speakers. And then there's the brain activity that goes on between speaker and listener. I'm a better reader most of the time; trying to distinguish speech is getting difficult for me as well. I'm thinking of taking up Signing (talking with the hands) to see if that will help. Darn, last doctor appointment I wanted to ask about tinnitus, the ringing in the ears I had all my life. Is that an issue with you as well? I wonder if it might be related to my lack of comprehension of speakers.

I am like that most of the times and I always ask those people around to repeat what they are saying. Even me sometimes is so loud to speak and yet when other speaking on me i could not hear them unless they speak so loud. maybe if have something to do with the environment is noisy it affect the hearing. Sometimes i felt so ashamed to ask them that I just pretend I heard them clearly and wrongly reply just to avoid upsetting the other person. When in terms of critical matter I ask repetitively just to avoid mistakes.

It happens here too when singlish ( a combination of singaporean tongue and english) is being thrown in. And it's easy to hear them almost everywhere. It takes a cool head to handle them at times. You are asked for your 'thumb' instead of the 'time' from a stranger on the street. And you wonder why. In extreme cases you have to decide whether you want 'lice' or 'rice'. When other tongues are thrown in as well you would probably end up scratching your head. Thanks for the hilarious post Cutie!
