1. Throw away any trash that needs to be thrown away, if there is too much stuff, donate, sell or plainly throw it away!
2. Put everything in their place...dishes in the sink to be washed. Newspapers by the fireplace or recycle them, etc. etc.
3. Dust and vacuum...vacuum daily, dust as needed, in my house it's usually 2 times a week.
4. Wash surfaces down. Some will need daily cleaning, as the counter tops, kitchen table, bathroom surfaces. Some will need weekly cleaning, as in switches that turn the lights on and off, and some will require only once a month or less, as in the walls of the house.
Now remember, if you use furniture polish, furniture polish is not meant to be used as a cleaner, but to shine with, so wipe the area with a damp cloth and let dry before using the polish. Otherwise you just trap the dirt into the polish.
I think that's about it. And I do tend to follow these rules, what about you guys..

Well luckily my MIL is quite the opposite, if I need something badly I will tell her and she will be there to back me up. And I'm the same way with her. We both enjoy keeping our homes tidy so I think that's why it works for us.

I think your mil is my kind of cleaner, lol. I like for my house to be clean. I don't know how people live in clutter & dirt. There is too much soap & water in the world for people not to stay clean & keep their house clean.
