All of us believe in what was handed down to us. We retain what suits us, so that we live in peace. After all belief need not necessarily have proof and in trying to find out the truth we will only become more and more confused and spend sleepless nights over it. Happy are those who are comfortable with what they believe in and carry on regardless of how much they know about it. Faith they say can move mountains. Your views please.

Hi,
I completely agree with you. But in order to believe something unconditionally one must first go through a phase of minimal logic. This shouldn't contain rigorous explanation and reading. A self seeking process is an integral part of this phase. We first search for true happiness and try to identify the source of it. Sometimes we become confused and identify the wrong thing. But soon the happiness vanishes after a while and then we again realize that what we chose was not meant for. It often becomes a hit and trial method. But no matter how we detour, every man has to find it somehow and that is the moment when all conflicts disappear. There is no need further logical deduction. Then it solely stands on faith and faith alone. At this stage only happiness and peace prevails. Each one of us is seeking for that heavenly moment and many of us have already got it. The rest will find it sooner or later. But before we leave this earth, we all will have this realization. Thanks
God bless you

Faith has no logic. How do you for example believe that Mary, mother of Jesus was a virgin? I believe because I was told. There are countless such dogmas that we have to believe where logic has no place.

Hi,
There are numerous such instances that doesn't confirm with logic. But these are all symbolic and depends more on individual interpretations. Now logic often fails to explain symbolic things. Each of these interpretations has its own logic and they often conflict with each other. What I say is that, each one is correct as long as it is positive and brings you closer to divinity. We should not pay much attention to these trifles and must focus on the main thing.

It is written at Matthew 17:20 "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Faith here means a strong belief in God.
However, a strong belief in God will not fill your stomach because He also said you would have to earn your food by sweat of your brow. How do you know what has been handed down to you is right? Why there are so many Bible versions; why there are so many denominations; and why there are so many religions? It is because what has been handed down to us is not right. It appears right as long as you believe; but the moment you apply mind you come to know there is something wrong somewhere.
Take for example Mathew's verse 17:20. The word conviction has been replaced by the word faith. It is with strong conviction you can move mountain. Now look up the dictionary. It gives the meaning of conviction as, "An unshakable belief in something without need for proof or evidence". Now think over. Will you convict an innocent man without proof or evidence? If you will believe in dictionary thinking that dictionary cannot be wrong then you will hang an innocent man for no fault of his. If dictionary can be wrong then I ask you why Bible cannot be wrong. Therefore, do not believe in what has been handed down to it. Apply your mind and then believe.

All those who have been probing into matters that have no logic are still stuck and at most created factions but to what avail? What benefits would there be in trying to research into something that has no proof? "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" because atleast I do not lose anything but as I said in my discussion I take what suits me without doing any research as some things are crystal clear to me, specially having a general approach to religion. Each of us are individuals and automatically know what is right and wrong. That much is good enough to carry on in this world and live in peace. What is a sin to you may not be a sin to me and vice versa although there are clear cut commandments 'thou shalt do this and do that............."

Did I not tell you that I have made choices? Is it not the same and that is to take what I think is good for me?

Last year I traveled from Mumbai to Goa by my car. I was not familiar with the roads. I had to stop at one place to ask directions. The person saw in this an excellent opportunity to go where he wanted to go. He offered to help. I told him to hop in my car. He took me around in circles and finally left me at a place, which was quite opposite to where I wanted to go. He got off my car saying he himself forgot the road. I had to find my own way.
There are two kinds of people in the world. One kind will show you the right direction. The other sort would always mislead you. All I want to say that beware of those who want to mislead you.
In the days of the yore, they handed down the Bible to the generations by word of the mouth. They translated it from many different languages. Custodians of the religions saw in this an opportunity to catch as many gullible in the snare as they could. They tell the people what they want to hear. They tell them the things to fire their imagination. They tell them the things that appeals to them. This was the reason while Jews were waiting for a Messiah they were waiting for a king who would lead them out of the captivity. After Jesus came and told them that I have come to give you a freedom from bondage of sins, they were disillusioned. They went and crucified him.
Likewise, there are many who are waiting for Jesus to come again. They believe that Jesus would come on the clouds and every eye would see his glory. Would they believe if He comes in rags in a manger? Again, they would not believe him. Many who profess their allegiance to him would stand there and cry for his blood once again. They would call him an impostor.
All I am asking you not to believe in the people who are trying to mislead. Believing in everything they say is the easiest path. Always take the difficult path because the path, which is difficult, would lead you to the truth. They easiest path would lead you to perdition. All I ask you to make the right choice before it is too late.

All of us believe in what was handed down to us
completely UNtrue..Not ALL of us "believe in what was handed down" by any means..
in trying to find out the truth we will only become more and more confused and spend sleepless nights over it.
Again I disagree. I spent 2 years back in my 20s searching for the truth in my life..Soul searching etc and I actually became LESS confused about everything..I found my peace and STOPPED having sleepless, restless nights.

This discussion is regarding religion and not searching for truth in one's life. Yes. Searching for truth in one's life goes far beyond searching for the basis of religious dogmas that have been handed down to us, dogmas which have no logic per se. And trying to research dogmas that have no logic would be a wild goose chase.

Hmmmm??? If mankind was content with what they believed and never searched for knowledge and truth, wouldn't we all still be cavemen and women??? Truth and knowledge increases our understanding. The more we understand the more doors can be opened. We will acquire wisdom along with more capabilities. It is better. Sure it does take work and effort. Few things worth while come easy. Life is more than just being comfortable. Shouldn't every child become much more than the sum of their parent's teachings???? Parents want you to!! Let's not give up just yet. There is so much more to discover!!

We are talking of religion here which has nothing to do with progress of cavemen and women!! In my discussion I clearly mentioned that I would take what suits me and live in peace. We are in the year 2010 and the bible still remains the same with no modifications whatsoever but it is for the individual to accept it or reject it but trying to probe into facts and figures will take us nowhere as most of religious dogmas have no logic and that which has no logic cannot be proved but yes, there are some issues which are clear as crystal for which one does not have to do research but simply accept or reject it. They are after all interpretations and there could be several!!

Faith is a prop that sustains us and as long as it sustains us why go after proof?
