How many books would you take with you on vacation?

Hey readers! I'm about to wrap up my quarter at school, and after that I'm going on a family vacation! I'm so excited. I read books all year round, but vacation to me sounds like reading books all day long! I'm thinking about taking around 6-8 with me when I leave. And yes... I could actually finish them during the week. So if you were going on vacation, how many books would you bring and how many do you think you could finish?

If I were going on vacation for a week I'd probably bring three or four books with me and decide there which of them to read during that particular week. I could probably finish two or three of them. We would also be doing other things during the day and evening so that I wouldn't have hours and hours to read each day. When I know I will be staying at a particular place for the week I have been known to order (on the internet) a book that I particularly want to read to arrive at the place I'm staying shortly after I get there. That is fun to have it waiting at the front desk for me.

Oh that's a good idea! I hadnt thought of ordering a book to be sent to the holiday destination. Great thought there!

Wow! I never thought about having ordering a book and then having it waiting at the desk for me. Sounds like a great way to start a vacation! I don't spend all day reading on vacation either, but since I'm such an avid reader I can read a lot in very little downtime and I finish loads of books when I have more downtime. I'm thinking about bringing ten of my really short books. That way I can feel super accomplished when I finish three in a day. lol

On my part if i can picture the place that it would be to boring, i would bring two books. If i can see it that i will enjoy and their are a lots of activities for the vacation, i would never bring a book for it would be a burden of bring, but sometimes i would bring one book, just to kill my waiting time during travel or dull moments.

Well my vacation was pretty exciting, but there was plenty of waiting involved. Instead of being bored while waiting in line, I chose to read books! I finished about seven during the week. No, we were only gone for six days. I also read loads on the plane rides there and back and wherever else I was in transit like a bus or a boat. There was lots to do, and every day was full... but even when I'm at home I'm always snatching a few spare minutes reading.

I may take some six books for some ten days of vacations and as I love reading so I might look for books there also to buy. Reading is a passion for me and I look forward every single day to finish a new book though.

I would probably bring just one book I meant to finish during vacation.bringing too many books will add heavy load on my bag.I would rather travel with lots of clothes than with lots of books.I would still enjoy my vacation if I bring one book.

Yeah... I'd rather bring lots of books. Can't have too much knowledge! Actually, I don't mind carrying around the extra weight. It's a good work-out! I'd probably still enjoy my vacation if I didn't have a book, but I tend not to enjoy life period if I don't have something to read. Reading is an addiction for me.

Thats a very good question. I too am the kind of person who reads away most of the days. Now i literally got back from a vacation less than 24 hours ago. On this vacation, i took 6 books with me, and finished them all(although it could have been considered 7 or 8 because one of the books was a mythology encyclopedia.) Hope this helps, and i hope you have fun on your vacation.

I usually just bring one or two, because I like to buy books at both book stores at the airports, and where I am going. That rule doesn't apply if I don't know the language in the country where I am going though...

It would help to be able to read the books you buy. Lol I'd prefer not to go book shopping at the airport because I'm the kind of person who would forgo food for a week to spend $80 on books. I need to avoid temptation. So I bring my reads with me instead of getting some. (though I might find myself buying at least one book during the course of the week)

As I love both traveling and reading books, so usually I end up with at least a book during my vacations. But I do not usually take more than a book as I also like to spend a lot of my time exploring my vacation destination, so in that sense I read the book only while traveling by train and after I have settled in for the night. Cheers! Ram

I don't read all day on vacation either, but I read a lot so I can finish a great deal in my down time. I'll read while in transit, and where I'm going I'll be in transit several times a day, and then right before I go to sleep.

Hi ally of the rain:When I'm on vacation I only take one book with me. I remembered that when I was 14-16 years old I took with me the whole Harry Poter series and then I discussed with my parents because they say that's not the way I shopuld spend my vacations and that I have enough time to read at home so I shouldn't do this on my vacations. I guess they're right so now I take a book with me. Thanks for asking thi question. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Well I don't just read on my vacations, but I'm a fast reader so even with a little down-time I can finish loads of books. I'd probably never try the whole harry potter series in one week though.

I'm short on money too, so I go to the library often too. But I can't pass up the chance to buy books when I can.

I usually take about 8, I get paperbacks from the likes of charity shops and then leave them in the hotel when I leave. Most of the hotels and apartments that I have visited have a place where visitors leave their books and magazines so other people can read them. So I usually read some of those as well. I will normally get through about 12 -15 books on a two week holiday - I just love reading!!

Hmm... I've never found a book left by the hotel stayers before me. That would be a pleasant surprise! 12-15 is a good number of books! I hope you have a great book holiday soon!

Well, I went to London recently for a day and had a total of about 6 hours on trains and Tubes, so I took 2 books with me, but only ended up reading about 100 pages of one!!! On a relaxing week's holiday, I would probably take five books. I often have 3 I'm reading at one time anyway, but I like taking lots of different genres, so I can pick what to read depending on my mood. I have recently finished The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen and at the moment, I am reading Denise Welch's autobiography (British actress & TV presenter). I have a couple of library books to start too. I don't tend to take library books away with me though (in case they get lost or damaged) nor hardbacks (as they are heavy to carry) - just paperbacks I own.

I never take library books either for the same reason. I'm always afraid something horrible will happen to them. I will take big hardbacks though for the same reason that I'll carry a big hardback to school with me... I don't mind the weight at all! I like hardback books because they're durable, fun to read, and you can hit annoying and immature boys with them! As for the extra weight, I probably need the extra muscle anyway.

When i am on vacation,i will not take any book with me.The reason is when i travel around the scenic,i always turn very tired,so i have no time to read books.I don't know whether you have the feeling or not.

Nope. While I may be tired for the first day, I'm never tired through the whole week. Being tired doesn't stop me from reading though. When I'm mentally exhausted after a day of school, yes. But when I'm just physically tired, no. In fact, reading before bed helps me get to sleep because it calms my mind down. I'm looking forward to getting more sleep on my vacation!

Too many! I always go overboard and end up trying to take my entire library. (I have book separation anxiety, lol)

I think 6-8 books will be alright...It really depends upon the person if he can finish the book in a week....And besides reading books while on vacation is very relaxing....You get to lounge around the place while reading books. For me I think I would bring around 5 books and I think I could finish it because there are less distractions while on vcation.

It depends on how long the books are too. I'm a pretty fast reader and I'm planning on bringing several pretty short books to read.

oh well this depends on how long i may go on vacation and who i'm with.. if my vacation is only a week, maybe 1 or 2 would do. but if it is with my boyfriend, i would not bring any, *grin* if my vacation is a month, i would bring like 10 and my laptop. if i'm with my boyfriend, i still won't bring any. *wink*

I love reading and when I go on vacation I also bring a lot of books, probably around 10 books or something like that. I don't usually read every book that I bring, but I prefer to bring many books so that I always have something to read. Sometimes I get disappointed in some of the books that I have bought or borrowed at the library, when that happens I start reading another book instead of finishing the one I don't like. That is another reason why I like to bring many books. I probably read 6 or 7 books in a week, but it depends on the size of books of course.

I've got a whole bunch of short books (Juvenile fiction around 100-150 pages each. I actually like reading children's books more than I like reading adult books sometimes!) in my to-read stack right now so I might end up bringing around ten of those. I usually finish everything I start though, regardless of whether or not I like the book. Practicing reading books I don't enjoy all the way to the end makes it easier to read to study. That and I appreciate good books so much more!

Well, that's a very good habit. I like reading too, but i think bring so many books on vacation is not a sensible choice. why don't you bring you MP4 player or iphone. You can download some book on it.

Aw... well I can't stand reading on a computer. Plus I think it's a practically a crime to take your computer with you on vacation.
