How often do you wash your dogs?

I tend to wash my dogs once a week all year round...however, my female dog gets smellier quicker than my male dog & should probably be washed 2 or 3 times a week but I have heard that this is can be bad for dogs & dry out their skin of natural oils.
How would you overcome this problem?

Dogs should not be Bathed very frequently unless they stink much !!
I bathe my dog every three weeks . I keep a count . I bathe him every third sunday of the month.
Dogs skin naturally generates Oils to protect them from inclement weather . If we wash them very frequently , the oil producing capacity would reduce and would naturally dry out and your dog may even shed his fur which would take longer to grow.
You could consult your pet vet regarding the smell thing , or you could use a conditioner that is Ph balanced and also with a fragrance.
The smell from the dog is because of the dust and other things that gets deposited on the skin and sticks over the oils .
Regular brushing of hair with a gentle Hair brush can help you overcome these .

I may have to try the brushing - I rarely brish my dogs as they have really short hair.

I doesn't really matter if your dogs have short or long hair !! , Brushing is done to remove any unwanted matter sticking to dog's skin .
The only thing that matters is What type of brush you choose .Itdepends upon the skin and Fur length .
Better go for a Soft one , if the fur is short or if it's a pup.

Hi , I bathe my dog 2x a week because I live in the tropics especially during the summer because dogs would get a heat stroke due to the menacing heat of the sun. They small more too when it is hot. So I have to groom them and bathe them because they live inside my house. I use oatmeal soap and use even pure oatmeal to wash my dog to combat the dry skin problem and I also give them cod liver oil 2x a week for coat and skin maintenance as well as to boost their immune system.

I live in the sub-tropics & in the summer, only bathe them once a week but because I live a 1 min walk to the beach, they get to swim everyday...now it's winter & I have to pick my days to bath them
