Are the houses in your area fenced?

In the majority of the places I have lived at since I was a kid, the majority of yards have been fenced then when I moved to where I am now 8 months ago, I was amazed to see that there are more houses without fences than houses that do have fences. I know that this is an older area but you would think that in this day & age, there would be more fences going up to help protect their houses. What is it like in your neighbourhood?

The houses around me are mostly walled properties. There are many in the city with fences but I think in New Mexico there are more houses that have 4 to 6 feet walls around their homes. I love it because there is privacy all around and I feel so much more secure. I can't imagine living without a fence or wall around my house.

A lot of neighborhoods dont have many security risks, such as ones with neighborhood watch programs. People living in these areas may not need a fence unless to fence in a pet to allow it to roam the yard without wandering too far from the house.

We live in the center of our little town and within the town area, no houses can be seen fenced like that. Because houses are built so close to each other in the streets. Only in the outskirts of the town and in sophisticated areas, we can see some bungalows like that with fences or compound walls.

In my childhood house, all houses are fenced. I don't think people would risk not having a fence, since petty crimes are really rampant in the area, and I have never experienced having a house with no fence. I seldom see houses without fences anymore, even in the high end neighborhood, the houses still have fences, although they are considerable lower and less intimidating compared to those not in an exclusive village.

Maybe it's a really safe area.. I hope that I could find a place like that if I ever buy my own house someday.

I have a dream of staying in a fenced house since my child hood, but am unfortunate as our city is designed with house one after the other which is not comfortable. But there is no escape we have to live.
Living in a fenced house is very hygienic that provides fresh air from all the four sides.

Our house also is fenced for some reasons like protection and safety because nowadays there are news about robbing unattended houses. It is to protect also from scavengers that sometimes might be attracted with your things inside the house. The majority reason really is to protect the house from outsiders.

Yes, the yard at my house is fenced. I don't think I could imagine what it would be like if my yard wasn't fenced. I guess it would be okay if my family liked our neighbor but there is one neighbor who always stand on his side of the fence and yell at my cousins whenever they are playing in the yard. My cousins are only children so I guess it's safer if there is a fence.

I too think it's safer for children to play within fences.

We have fences for the back yard to keep the pets in and keep any stray animals out but no fence around the house it self. I usually only see and kind of fence or a gate like that around some mansions.

Everywhere that I have ever lived there have been fences around every property in the area. Some of the older beach front areas that I have lived have had small non private wire fences, but they have still been fenced.
But mostly I have seen the normal run of the mill six foot high timber fencing in the areas that I have lived.

I still find it hard to imagine living in a house that doesn't have any fences.

In our area, the number is even. Some houses are fenced, and some are not. I think at this time it is not so safe to stay in a house that is open or not fenced. Who knows what lurks in the dark? There are so many weirdos and wackos today that we could not take chances. We have to find homes that are safe from people with ill intentions.

I totally agree with you - there are way too many wackos out there these days.

No, simply because in our area there is no space for a fence. Houses are like spaced 1 cm for each other and to buy 1 acre of land it must cost like $100,000.

Our houses are fenced with Bricked wall which 4 feet in hieght. Basically it is for protection from dogs and also it is the demarcation of the personal property here in India..

When I eventually buy a house, I too will have brick fences.

My neighborhood does not have any fences. ITs because my neighborhood is a crime watching neighbor and it is very secured. I have seen fences around but I dont know if fences makes the house any safer....

I live my parents' land, so it's normal to fence the area. It not only for protection, it's also to mark the area. The other houses are pretty close so we didn't want to step into other people's property. Also, the fence helps to keep the animals like cows and goats away.

no we have no fences but a gate..yes that's for protection but others are confident that their houses are safe. I don't know why or sometimes they don't have money to buy and build fences

That's fair enough...there is alot of money involved to build a fence that will stand the test of time.

I can understand the fence around the pool - it's law here in Australia to have a fence around a pool.
