Where do you get your ideas for writing?

Whether it be for starting a discussion here on mylot or writing something else for another site or for a book, etc...where do you get your ideas? I get my ideas for discussions anywhere - even in the shower or just different experiences I've had. When it comes to writing for anything else, I get them from experiences & someone may say or do something which will give me a great idea.

I have been a member of a writing group for six years. We have a different leader at each meeting and they come up with prompts. Sometimes they are from websites or books, sometimes they are photos or objects. I wrote almost a whole novel using prompts from my writing group. Of course I elaborated on them all and added some other scenes too. Here is an article I wrote on where to get ideas from. I hope you will check it out. http://writinghood.com/writing/where-do-stories-come-from/

You can start your own writing group if you don't have one in your area. First inquire at the local bookstore and library. If you can't find one, think about starting your own. Check out the article I wrote about that: http://writinghood.com/writing/how-to-start-and-manage-a-writing-group/ Good luck!

I mostly write about topics that I wonder about myself. So let's say I wonder why apples are so healthy. Then I usually do some research about it, write it down and use for an article. That way I can write articles and learn new things at the same time, which is just great! Multi-tasking at it's best, haha!

In writing, I get ideas from experiences, recent news and even TV shows I watched. For mylot, experiences and interests are the best things to share with.

I too sometimes get my ideas from the same ways that you do.

it all depends on the outside world and the online charisma through which we feel attracted so it all has to be derived from the environment and outside surroundings for sure.i always take my ideas like a leaf from their book and keep it close to my heart and then later pen it down and i have to feel silenced and in a nice qualm surrounding to think freely and innovate. I think for most of the people its almost the same.so it all depends on how we perceive ideas and how interesting it is for sure and the way in which we take it over a time. The outside world plays a big and crucial role in our writing impact and influence for sure and i like to keep myself to the realistic quotient rather than being in a crooked home to stick to writing.so its always good to get inspired i feel

I have more ideas than the time to write. The problem is that the ideas are not organized. When I am writing about healthy eating, some ideas about other topics pop out. It is very irritating. I cannot ignore those ideas too. That is why I have more titles needing my attention. I do not know how or where the ideas come from. It seems to pop out from nowhere. I doubt I have the time to write so many articles a day.

I sometimes get that too but always have another notebook or piece of paper ready...I hope you are able to get all of your ideas down on paper so you can save them for when you do have time.

For mylot, I get my ideas from the perplexing things that really bug me. Or sometimes from something that piqued my interest. For writing articles, I sometimes get inspired by news and events. Sometimes a comment I heard over the radio or tv will start me off. Right now though, everything seems inspiring. The hard thing will be how to package it without looking and sounding cliche so someone would get interested enough to read it. Internet writing is differen. Before a catchy headline would bring you views. Now you have to have a knowledge of keyword, keyword density and all that stuff to get views. Sigh.

I know, it's hard to write things for the internet. Good luck with the rest of your writing...I hope that you have a note book to write all of your ideas in so you don't lose them.
