Counting Blessings Does Not Mean Anything Without Payback Time

Our priest said that when he converses with parishioners, he often hears the statement I always count my blessings and am thankful for my family and friends. This line connotes, our priest said, that the speaker and the family and the friends are most likely financially secure. That is why they can easily count the blessings. But counting blessings does not mean anything without payback time. It is always the duty of the blessed one to give back, to pay back. When he does so, then he is truly blessed.

Hi eileenleyva
I agree with your perspective. It is easier to count blessings when you are not struggling to pay rent, buy food, etc. Yet, someone can always find a blessing and return blessing to someone else. What do you consider a blessing and what is the blessing that people can give back?

Sorry Pj, this is one of my discussions that got lost through oblivion. And thanks to vonmac up there I found this again.
What the priest was talking about was the financial security many families are enjoying. They have their dream houses, dream cars, education, leisure, and so on, and yet, these are all fleeting happiness. These blessings only become genuine when these people come to share their material wealth with the less fortunate.

Hello,
For me blessings could be in a form of tangible and intangible things. But i mostly prefer the later.

True, it is peace and happiness that matters the most. So, let us try to give as much love as we can, in whatever way. Then we can quantify the blessings all the more.

i THINK EVERYONE HAS blessings to count if they will just look for them. I don't think your finacial situation keeps u from finding blessings, we all have them.

And most often, the blessings are just right under our noses.

I don't need to count my blessings,
because i may not be able to remember all of them. but there are fewer things that i couldn't forget as a blessing. and that is being healthy, single free life, having a family, and no enemies, that's good enough for me. forget money or probably think of it as secondary but you know the usual blessings are always the important once to remember.

You might be right there. We have so much blessings that we should be thankful for. The figurative speech though originated from a Christmas carol Count your blessings, instead of sheep...

For me blessings doesn't have anything to do with earthly stuffs, because if it's going to be the basis, what about those less fortunate's, are they not being blessed? what makes us so different from them that they aren't as blessed as we are?
Blame those public figures for that state of mind, on how they brag on TV how blessed they are for having those thing they have, what about those who have less, are they not blessed after all? i'm sure they only wanted to be a role model but not everybody that listens to them is equip with
the necessary filters to digest what they are truly saying, As for me, we need not to count the blessings for it's singular and it's clearly visible when you are standing in front of a mirror. You are a Blessing, a blessing to others.
nice article..thank you..

True blessing is what we can give to others, what we share to them. And yes, each one of us is a blessing. So, keep loving! That is what counts the most.
