This world cup seems to be very low scoring in the number of goals.
even the star players like messi, rooney, are dissapointing the fans.
star players are struggling to find goals.
what may be the reason.
till nowthe maximum number of goal scored in a match is 2.
many mathes are becoming draw.
the biggest margin of win was 2-0, that too against greece by south korea.
many blame that the ball is not good, its shape is not correct, but what do you think?
hope this situation will change in the upcoming matches.

The problem is that more and more coaches these days give emphasis to defense rather than offense. Gone are the days when the Samba boys used to entertain on the sports pitch or the Dutch used to play the total football in order to thump in the goals. These days the professional coach will have a robust defense and pack the midfield with defensive midfielders more intent on breaking down the attacks of the other team rather than going ahead an scoring. The scoring is more or less done on the counter attack. That is the reason why I want Spain to perform well in this world cup as they are the only team in this cup who are playing with 2 striker up front in Villa and Torres!! Of course, Maradona has also played an attacking line up for Argentina. I hope they too go very well in the tournament.
Cheers!

ya some coaches give inportance to defense rather than on attack,
but its not only the reason.
as you said argentina was a expected team to score many goals, but they too win the match 1-0.
The players are missing many chances, they should convert the chances to goal then only the football will become more entertaining.
I hope that teams like Brazil and Spain will change this situation

In Argentina's specific case they came up against an inspired Nigerian goal keeper who won the man of the match for his performance else Argentina could have scored at least 4 goals. But yes, there is one more factor which I think could be the reason for low scores i.e. the Jabulani ball. I have not seen a free kick taken in this world cup yet that has really troubled the goalkeeper. I think probably the free kick specialists are still coming to terms with the swerve of the Jabulani ball.
Cheers!

Ya absolutely the Nigerian Goly was awesom, and he deserved the MOM.
And the Jabulani ball, its playing some tricks...........
While many strikers find it hard to score with Jabulani,English goal keeper, Green find it so simple to score with it.
Actully I feel some difference in the appearance of this ball, but i dont know much about this ball.
If anyone know please tell.

Hi ramaswamyvtkv!
You may be right. I was a little disappointed with the 1-1 result in the opening match between South Africa and Mexico. With due respects to both teams I actually expected better, especially in front of a home crowd. But it's still too early. Give them some time. And as you say hope things change.

I was about to start a discussion about the same thing. The goals are just not happening. The max goal of what I've seen was 1. Its taking just to long. The matches are just boring. Players keep messing up. This is one of the worst World Cup yet! Hopefully it gets better,

Opening games are rarely big scorers as the teams are nervous and want to finish the game and settle into the competition. Everyone blames the ball every world cup, excuses without any proof. Also some of the bigger teams have not played yet and if you ask me, all the games so far have been equal. I have no doubt there will be some high scoring games coming up but we have to wait for everyone's nerves to settle.
I think Germany should score twice against Australia later today.

There does seem to be a lack of goals so far. It may be down to the ball but i think that it is down to the lesser teams getting better. We no longer get teams getting hammered as the lesser teams are getting better organised. Hopefully there will a decent match soon to set the world cup alight.

I think they are nervous. Let them calm down and in the games to come I think there will be more goals scored. Let the teams get into their second game and we will see if they have any game plan.
