i admit, at home when eating, i used to eat with my hands sometimes. a while ago, we took our lunch at the cafeteria with my new colleagues using my hands but i did not go over so well..i just chose the dry and pickie one as i know some will just keep on slipping on me...i should have been using my cutleries but since i am new, i just went on with the ride.. all is well that ends well anyway at least that was a new start for my new job with my new local colleagues...
at least sometimes during small gatherings we need to mingle as one of them.

i eat with my hands too... that makes me closer to the blessings i am fortunate to have... but when the food is too hot for my hands, i resort to spoons and fork... eating with one's hands, cleaned with soap and water, also promotes camaraderie among friends, even relatives... it's also an old tradition here in my country... there are even restaurants promoting eating with hands here... it's a restaurant chain, actually... called kamayan... kamay is the tagalog work for hand... and kamayan simple means using one's hands...

hi kumar I am glad for you that you mingled with the others
and now will be getting to know them better. I do not do well
with using my fingers on everything, its just not an American
custom. we do however eat chicken and bread and some things
'with our fingers. My Filipina table mate is so charming the
way she daintily picks up small pieces of moist food and eats
so charmingly .Me I would look clumsy doing that but I could
see that is a F
ilipina custom and it looks neat on her.

i have seen some ladies here as you mentioned and they look very beautiful. looking happy and i would yearn to see them smile or laugh to show off their "bloody gums" sweet red and
... hehehe sometimes when i'm sick i used to ask them for a medical slip as most of them are medical profesionals here..
i have one boss before who used to be a filipino and he taught me valuable things and he happens to be a spanish speaker...yes i am happy that i found the right place for me and i would say a big YES!

I was raised in a family that views putting your elbows on the table as offensive. I couldn't get away with eating with my fingers at the table. I would take the food to my room sometimes, and I would eat chicken without cutlery. If I wanted to drink my soup brew, I would have to leave the table, or at least wait until the guests left. Yes, once or twice I have eaten with my hands, though.
