Streamlining Movies From PC To TV=^..^=

Yesterday I did some research online regarding this and didn't come up with any clearcut answers. What I want to do is be able to transmit movies from my laptop to my television. Not only streaming movies, but, live programming as well.
There is one site that I belong to that actually shows live movies which I find pretty refreshing. Basically, I'm sick of paying for cable. It seems every few months they raise the price. But, I don't want to give up cable if it means giving up prime, live and new upcoming programming. Just watching streaming stuff would be just like watching only recorded movies. I need to be able to watch up and coming, new programming as well and you can only do that with live T.V., if you know what I mean. If possible, I would like to be able to watch both streaming and live programming. Yes, I know! I want it all!! LOL!
From what I'm understanding from my research yesterday I need a special cable cord that runs from my laptop to the T.V. It also says you need an HDTV which is what I have. Is anyone out there doing it right now? If so, can you give me some tips, please? Pretty please? Thanks guys!

Heyya kellyjeanne! I was doing a little research on this when I was a memeber of netflix and they had a wireless hookup. There was a box that hooked up to your TV and then a thing that looked like a flash drive that fit your computer. It sent the signal from the computer to the TV. I bet there are cords but I liked the wireless idea.

Hey Jen!
Good to hear from you! I believe the box you can get from Netflix is referred to as a slingbox, but, I don't want that because I don't want to get Netflix. I used to have them and they raised the monthly fee on me so I dropped them.
I like the wireless idea much better too!
Have a great day!

im not much updated to the latest technos that are equipped on notebooks and laptops though i can make a suggestion since both desktop and notebooks/laptops have the same peripheral devices( although not compatible with each other). I've tried using a a video card (geforce 128mb) equipped with a tv out. i simply connected it to a tv with a a/v cable then set the settings then its done. you could also use your hdtv as an alternate monitor. new versions of lcd supports this. just plug (same cable used in monitors) the cable to your tv and into your laptop. then adjust the settings on your tv along with your laptop. I've tried this set up a few times. have a nice day.

Hello noside13!
Thanks for responding. It all sounds so complicated doesn't it? You have given me ideas, though. I'm definitely going to look further into this. There is a really cheap tech support guy who checks my computer once or twice a year when it starts getting slow. I'll ask him if he can help me decide on what specifics to buy to get the job done.
Have a great day!
