My frozen yogurt is too frozen to eat

I buy the small containers for ice cream or frozen yogurt. That way I can get my fix, but there's only a little bit in the house so I don't eat a whole gallon. The only problem is that when you have the single-serve containers, you have to let it thaw out a little bit before you can eat it. My brother would buy Ben & Jerry's all the time but microwave it a bit before he could eat it. What do you do with your ice cream or frozen yogurt so you can eat it without melting it?

Heat up an ice cream scoop under hot water, then scoop out the ice cream or frozen yogurt into a bowl, then eat it like that. Just keep heating up the spoon and scooping it out to get as much as you want. Works like a charm every time.

This is a single server container, it holds almost 1 cup. If I scooped it out, I'd get 2 scoops if I were lucky. I just let it set out for a couple minutes before I eat it and it is not as hard and I can eat it with a spoon. My ice cream scoop that I use for the gallon containers is great because it uses the heat from your hand to heat the scoop and it works great!

reinydawn: I have never seen such a scoop. What type is it and how does it transfer heat from you hands to the scoop head itself?

All I do is scoop it out. It is hot and humid enough that the melt effect comes along quickly. I can see where the little containers would freeze more solidly, though.

The heat makes it melt pretty quickly so I'm not waiting long. If I bought the larger containers I'd eat the whole thing in a couple days :-(

There is a lot of us at home and when we do buy ice cream it's because we're going to eat it when we come home. We don't leave leftovers usually - that's how we crave for it. But let's just say there was a leftover because the flavor wasn't most of the people's type and we do get this once in a while whenever we try to go 'adventurous' and buy something that is not-the-usual. Okay, then it freezes up and when I do have a craving for it I end up waiting because it's rock solid. I usually immerse everything in hot water, the ice cream containers in my area are usually out of plastic tubs instead of those paper containers, so it's pretty safe to immerse them in water. At the same time, I also put my spoon in hot water as well to help it scoop through the frozen ice cream faster. Though, your brother's idea might also work, but I think the electricity is just too expensive to be heating up ice cream all the time. So, there you go, the whole tub under hot water. That works well for me. Though, as I said earlier, the family just can't leave leftovers when we eat ice cream.

My son buys quarts of ice cream and he'll scoop out what he wants and put the rest back for another day. It's usually not as hard out of the larger containers as it is in the smaller ones. I don't know why this seems to be how it is, but that's been my experience. Since I'm trying to lose weight I only buy the small single-serving containers for me. My husband can't eat dairy so he never has any ice cream. Usually just leaving it set for a couple minutes will make it soft enough to eat. The scoop I use is from Tupperware. I don't know if they still sell it, I bought this one at least 15 years ago!

Hi. reinydawn. The only possible way that I know of would be to microwave the yogurt so that it could melt just enough for you to eat it. But, the only other option that I can think of is to let it sit out for about 30 minutes, and maybe the ice cream will loosen up some, so that you can fix it into a cup or bowl to eat it.
