according to the Catholic community there is this place called purgatory where people who passed away resides when they have done both good deeds and bad during the time they live on earth, those who commit sins but not mortal sins. But according to the bible purgatory does not exists, there are only two places where people who past away would go; heaven and hell.
what can you say about this issue?

Hi lovieron: Being a Catholic I can tell you that we beleive in the purgatory based on the Bible:
Daniel 12:10:
Till a number are tested and make themselves clean; and the evil-doers will do evil; for not one of the evil-doers will have knowledge; but all will be made clear to those who are wise.
For us this make reference to the purgatory where souls that have commit sins will be purified.
Zechariah 13:9
And I will make the third part go through the fire, cleaning them as silver is made clean, and testing them as gold is tested: and they will make their prayer to me and I will give them an answer: I will say, It is my people; and they will say, The Lord is my God.
In this part, the Bible talks about a part of the souls that will have to pass through a fire proof but after the time God will call them, when they will be clean.
Matthew 12:32:
And whoever says a word against the Son of man, will have forgiveness; but whoever says a word against the Holy Spirit, will not have forgiveness in this life or in that which is to come.
This is the most important quote of the Bible. In this part Jesus mention that whoever says a word against the Holy Spirit will not have forgiviness in the life that is to come. So, we understand that some of the sins we make they can be forgotten in the life to come.
I understand that you don't beleive in the purgatory. You don't have to do this. But I think that is disrespectful for the Catholics that you say that we beleive in the purgatory without any fondament. The reason why you think that Bible says this place doesn't exist is because you have another interpretation of the Bible.

Daniel 12:10 talks about man's decision if they do evil will only be evil, there is nothing in between, the verse itself does not even talk about a particular place such as what you claim as "purgatory"
on Zechariah 13:9 does not even talk about purgatory too... it talks about purification of the righteous ones, who offers true sacrifice or praise to the true living God.
Matthew 12:32 talks about blaspheming the Holy Spirit will be unforgivable and this has nothing also to do about purgatory my friend. You really don't have the knowledge that comes from God to say that these verses supports your belief of purgatory because these verses are not speaking of such. You read the Word of God as a whole, and never in tidbits in order to attain the meaning as to what the Holy Spirit says. If you really have the Spirit that comes from God, you will be set free from the truth that Purgatory does not exist.

I don't see where you get pugatory from Daniel. The King James version of 12:10 says, "Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand."
And the Jerusalem Bible says, "Many will be cleansed, made white and purged; the wicked will go on doing wrong: the wicked will never understand; the learned will understand."

HI hanizah and loverion: well, I have to tell you that the beleif in the purgatory is based on what Bible says:
So, we understand that some of the sins we make they can be forgotten in the life to come.

even though it is taught in my church and the subject in some religion. I could not really believe on it unless i visit it. Though it may seem impossible to defend such beliefs with lack of evidence. One things for sure it gives some consolation to some lost soul. it serves as a cleaning place for soul to clean and repent from their sin. To reflect and have penance for their sins. Since if their is no purgatory they are only two places to either hell or in heaven.

well i believe in some kind of purgatory. i believe that it is a transition between living and going to heaven. But for me it is not necessary to have a place called purgatory.
