hey all i am wondering wether to go on benifits for my depression, i also have social anxiety disorder which stops me from going to really crowded places, my depression also stops me from socializing and getting out into the world, i have never had a job because of this and there is no hope for me even finding a job just yet, i am on the job seekers allowance but the money i recieve is spent on bills.
i had depression for 8 years now, and social anxiety for about 4, what should i do? i cant have a job coz i am not mentally fit enough

i have depression as well, and its all how you learn to deal with that. and i know some who have social anxiety disorder too, and that is how you deal with it. i have somewhat both i dont like large crowded places where i feel like others is in my space.
but if you can get on meds to help with both and you are determain not to allow it to control then you can over come both of them. it took me doing and learning new things and being open minded to new things.
with the depression i learned and always remember there is someone out there got it way worst then i do, and it could always be worst too.
it all boils down how bad do you want a job, and how determain are you to over come them both.. good luck

I believe it is how you adopt to the situation or learn to cope like you said. the WILL and power to over come is the best answer to that problem.i had some depression myself, i didn't think i can have any but it's just there but i didn't give up.

hi,
Well though i am too late to answer this discussion i think you need proper ways to comeout of depression first. Once you come out it the postivity in you will defientely give you success. I too face the same situation and got depressed the result is very bad thinking which made me stay out of crowd for some day. but i real if you interact with people then only things are going to happen..hope i can help you provide some ways to come out of depression to come back to normal life.

Hello xxcleoangel,
It must be hard having depression, how worse it is? and how hard your depression is? i believe you can get over it, if you have a friend/any one you know that is professional psychologist then let them help you.
every one gets depressed but for one moment we have to learn to get over that depression. otherwise, how can you get a decent job? opportunity passes by and it doesn't stay on you when ever you feel you're gonna take it.
But i hope and pray that you will get a job some day

I'm sorry to hear that. And your story reminds me of my own experience. Though my problems went through only about one year, it is still scary for me to go back to the memory. At that time, I felt there was no hope for me at all and I thought I would never have a way out. I had a terrible relationship with my boyfriend and I had no confidence in myself at all. But fortunately I encountered a psychologist teacher who was so nice, so I booked some of her consulting time. Though during the whole year, I only went there about 8 times. But the result was great and I am now more confident and hopeful.
So I think since now you are not occupied by a job, you can spend your time on psychology self teaching. Now there are all kinds of psychology materials out there. You can teach yourself and this will save you a lot of money and will not cause you new stress. I suggest you start with Krihnamurti's works.
Wish you happiness!
