Good day to all.
I have a colleague who used to sleep early. Wherein she always complete the 8 hours ideal sleeping cycle. However, no matter how early she sleep and complete the cycle, when she reaches the office, still, she feels sleepy. Aside from that, she often take a nap during our lunch break in the office in order for her to cope up for the remaining afternoon working hours.
Whenever we try to ask her, what she did during the 2 days weekend, she keeps on telling us that she just sleep.
I know, that, there are times being sleepy in the office is normal, but, in this situation, I was quite wondering why my colleague always feel sleepy. And there is no chance that she did not feel being sleepy.

Yea, I do feel sleepy in my office, the reason being is that I work in night shift. I don't have much option thus I will have to work night shift. It is not only night shift but it takes 13 hours of my day. Thus I get very little time to sleep in the day time.

Maybe she was not physically fit…there was some weakness in her which prevented her from staying alert. I’ve also heard that our dietary habits affect our alertness to some extent so maybe she was not eating healthy. However, some people just love sleeping…they themselves cannot control the urge to take a short nap all the while. As for myself, yes, I do feel very sleep in office, specially during the 2pm to 4pm slot, immediately after lunch. But I’m not so drowsy on Mondays and Tuesdays but as the week wears on and I feel more and more exhausted, the yawns at office become more frequent too.

If I don't have a good rest in the evening, I will feel sleepy the next day. Also a nap after lunch is of vital importance to me. Otherwise I will feel ineffective in my afternoon work. A good rest, I think, is important to us.

hahaa .... it is something that is not normal and not good. If he is always sleepy and then how he could work well?
I think your friend needs to be examined by a doctor's health, whether there are abnormalities or not, because it was an uncommon thing.
My office also occasionally sleepy, but usually it happens at the end of my time working, when I've felt tired and had been too long in front of the computer.

I feel sleepy in the office when I do graveyard shifts. And no matter how much sleep I take in the mornings from the time I arrived from work.. Nothing beats the kind of sleep I get at night. Why? Because healings are done at night when we are asleep. Sleeping at night is really essential and really relaxes you out and gets your body ready in the morning.

My goodness, I feel sleepy reading this topic :) I guess it's almost my bedtime. Some people say you can never fully catch up on sleep once you miss a day. ^_^ But I hope that she gets better soon!

It seems that this sleepiness has became somewhat natural reaction to entering the office, her workplace. I think your colleague doesn't feel entertained by her job and so she stays bored during the whole workday. And it seems that sometimes the boredom reaches the level where she falls asleep. I can say I've been through something similar: even if I had a chance to restore my energy and sleep enough before going to work, I still felt so tired and sleepy when I reached my workplace.

Sometimes I feel sleepy in the office when the previous day I have to go outside the town until late at night. I am a marketing staff of manufacture company, so I spend lots of my time to visit customer in many city and often go home late because of long journey. In this case, I will feel so so sleepy in the office and maybe need a cup of coffee to handle it.

Hi, that's natural. Some people need more sleep while some are fresh even if they sleep for 4-5 hours a day. I too when working used to feel sleepy at afternoons and that half-an-hour was a very critical for me. My eyes used to shut down without my permission and I used to go senseless for a second or two. Then I used to get up, wash my face, stroll for some minutes in the lobby and get back. This used to continue for some time and after that critical half hour things used to get normal. I was very much ashamed for what was happening, but you can't oppose your body cycle. It differs from person to person.

You have know idea..My job is Network Operations/IS department. I dont know what it is but everyday around 2:30 i cant keep my eyes open. Of course my job is interesting when there are things or projects to be done. But on a regular or everyday basis it can get boring. I work a 12hr shift, but on really work 4hr-5hr a day and the remaining of the day is basically quiet. Me and my supervisor find ourselves talking about plans for the week what happened over the weekend. With computer advancements, it does all the work for you. So really i'm only there to make sure programs run when schedule and everything is running ok. So to answer the question, yes i find myself sleepy at work and often dozing off form time to time (sad to say).

well it is my belief she is suffering hypersomnia, its a condition in which due to excessive sleep at night u feel drowsiness and difficulty in concentrating. i had this problem it makes a person have frequent naps and instead of feeling fresh and alert after your rest u feel the opposite ,i did not need any medication cause i realized it was due to some of my habits that i changed and this is the general main reason for the cause of sleep disorders, emotional drifts have a lot to do with sleep disorders however i would advice if she is taking some medications do have a look over them cause they maybe the reason for the chronic fatigue she is experiencing.there are medications to treat them which are basically stimulants however i would recommend she first go over the medication if any she is taking and go over her lifestyle if she cant figure out the problem best she go for medical advice if she is displays symptoms like chronic fatigue and frequent urges to nap for over a month she will be given medication.

I do feel sleepy in the office after late nights. Especially now that the world cup is on, it is a real challenge to keep myself awake for the entire duration of a month!!
But generally I am very active in the office and do not feel very sleepy.
Cheers!

That's a great problem which I am facing these days. Just after lunch after miday I feel sleepy. I am unable to control my sleep.I even take a nap of 10 to 15 minutes on the table. since yesterday I wash my face and specially my eyes when I feel sleepy. I think it is a good solution to combat this sleep mania.

Regarding that I can't answer that but in my case I also hate the fact for being so sleepy. I am also experiencing even I took 10 hours already I felt sleepy. I don't know what is wrong about us at times I am drinking an energy drink so that I would not feel sleepy. It actually works but of course it makes me palpitate.

Yes - I feel sleepy just after having my meals. I enjoy meals and will not eat half stomach. And, due to my age this has become a habit to have a doze in the after for about 15 minutes. I cannot-control this.
Some how managing. I do not prefer to sleep in the after noon. this has started very recently.

Well sleep is a tricky thing to master, and for every person there are different situations so one thing might be the matter but maybe not. There is a chance that she is just not very active. In that situation maybe she should probably be seeking some kind of "low impact" workout regiment to do on the weekends instead of just sleeping. Things like yoga help in maintaining good circulation, better relaxation, and all around better health for mind and body. Of course its hard to convince someone that they need exercise when they feel so drowsy all the time but it is indeed true for some. My mother didn't believe me and now that she's working out more on a regular basis she is more active than I can keep up with!
There might be other things wrong however such as breathing problems at night, the airways not staying open and what not and that is something that a doctor would have to examine and fix however if she is complaining of waking up regularly at night you should recommend that to her as it could of course be serious.
Some people just have trouble falling asleep because they are to stressed or what not, worrying about work or home life, in which case sleeping pills may help but in my experience, since I have taken them to help me sleep because of stress, I found that I woke up either in the middle of the night or groggy the next morning which added more stress to my life. Of course everyone has different experiences with these as well, so its a trial/error kind of thing.
It could also be that she is sleeping to much, and that is also fatiguing which I know is funny but true. Again to fix this getting up and being active is going to be a hard thing for this type of person to do.
Hope this helps a little!
