Can LED lights be a long term investment of energy saving?

In comparison to other electric lights, the average for a LED light bulb is around $30 to $50. Quite a shocker isn't it for a single light bulb. In contrary, CFL (compact fluorescent lights) and incandescent light only around $1.00 more or less. But do you see LED as long term investment, or simply judge it by its current market price? According to research reveals that LED light can last much longer, and would save a lot of energy from your electric bill. So, in a long run, it might save a lot. So, that $30 to $50 you pay right now, can be stretch out at least 2 to 3 years of period with less electric cost. What do you think?

LED bulbs are considerably cheaper here, so I would suggest waiting to see if they come down in price there

LED lights are good savers of electricity but it doesnt cost 30 to 50$ it is around 7$ in India with a very good capacity, you juts tell me the , it has a good capacity of around 1 lakh burning hours , that is around 12 years of life if burnt continuously whereas the CFL maximum possibility is around 10,000 burning hours that is approximately one and half year.
That means you have to buy cfl 10 times or else buy LED once , hence if the cost of cfl is 1 $ than LED should cost you around 10 $ for the same capacity, but led saves you more energy around 1.5 times the energy saved by a normal cfl, hence 15$ be the approximate ideal seeling price of the LED if the cfl cost you 1 $.
In india cfl costs 1$ and LED costs around 7-10 $ hence the cost is below ideal condition hence many big power plant projects and street lights are changed to LED street lights, but that street lights cost is much more than 7 $ because of the cpacity, it is more than 300$

I think LED light bulbs consumes less energy than LCD bulbs and ordinary bulbs. They do help to save energy. Yes LED can last very long compared to other bulbs. I think you should look for the details of the LED bulb in the net to know more about it.

LED lights really is a energy saving device but I suggest not to buy it for now. If competition in the market is tight, it will cost less that it is now so buying now is not a good idea. As you said, it cost 30-50 dollars and that is a big deal. If you change all your bulb with lead, it will be an awful cost of money.
The price will go down eventually and wait for it :D

I don't know if they are good for long term investment but one thing for sure, they are quite expensive now. The prices should be reduced so that they are more affordable and within the reach of common people. May be, you need to research a little before investing your money. You should also consider their working life with the amount of electricity bill they save with their cost to get better idea of the benefit or loss if money is invested.

You will find led lights as little expensive but considering it's long lifetime and energy saving options, it will be a worthy product for the money you invested. It consume less power than any other bulbs; it uses only 14 to 24 watts of energy and can last for about 50000 hours.
if you calculate the energy savings of using led lights with that of other bulbs, led lights will benefit for the money you invested on them.
you can use the online led savings calculator and know how led lights will turn out to be a long term investment. try this link for led savings calculator,

I think it would take a long time, more than two or three years to make up the money spent on LED lighting. Also, I've heard that they're hard to see detail by, like doing needlework or reading. I will wait to see if the price comes down and if they improve before spending money on them.

if only i had the money right now, after learning about LED, i would replace all our bulbs in the house. i think buying or using LED lights is more practical since it consumes lesser energy. it may be quite expensive at first, but in a span or a year or so, imagine how much one can save on electricity bills.
however, i guess holding off or waiting for a little longer before purchasing. just let the price go down. they are quite expensive now because they are new in the market.

Its possible. LED consumes less power so lesser electricity bill. Maybe its really expensive when we first buy it but if we compute all the bills in the long run it is possible that we really save a lot. I just hope it is at least as bright, if not brighter as the CFLs.

Yes LED lights are good energy savers. I don't know the exact wattage you save but its basically almost free from what I hear. The only downside is that LED bulbs give off some weird glowing color so its not really like natural light. Another good side is that they don't use heat to light them so a light can be on for a week and still not be hot so there is less risk of there being an electrical fire.
If I could afford them for every house light I would probably get them but right now CFL's light my house pretty cheaply.
Hope this helps!

LED lights might be expensive, but the long term benefits is no joke. One of the advantages LED can give us are, LED can produce more light per watt than the traditional incandescent bulb and the lifespan of the LED is relatively longer of up to 100% more than that of its counterpart. And, LED does not contain mercury, unlike the light bulb which contain a substantial amount of mercury. Summing up the reasons why LED is better that the light bulb, and I would simply say that indeed LED lights can be a long term investment of energy saving.
