"Education should be free of cost"-agree?

Hi MyLotters, I've seen many talented students go in waste due to lack of money to continue further studies.Hence, the government or other educational institute should run free of cost for the sake of country. It'd not be a business. And government should be more careful regarding the country's assets,i.e,the talented yet poor students. What do you think,MyLotters? I may not reply you immediately due to my workload but I'll rate you yet positive. Thanks, Happy MyLotting!!

While I respect your opinion that education would be free, and would like to live in a society that would offer it, I have to tell ya that nothing in this world is free. The money we pay teachers for higher education comes out of our pockets because 1. The teachers make a higher salary because they have been better trained and 2. If it were not payed for by us out of pocket, it would still be payed by us out of pocket. The reason I say this is because the government doesn't just have random funds that magically have money made for them. We as tax payers pay for the funds and vote for what they are used for (most of the time other times the president acts on his own jurisdiction to what he thinks will protect our country something that will make or break a president). Again while I sit here I couldn't possible fathom the idea of going to school for free. I would love it but I probably wouldn't respect it just like I didn't respect going to elementary or high school. I have to admit students who drop out don't go on or just fear paying the high cost of school probably aren't as gifted as you seem to think. If you are that concerned might I suggest that you show them to a site that offers grants, sponsorships, or some other rewards site? I understand that not everyone has supportive parents who would pay for their college as I am most def. one of them. If they want to succeed and get a higher education, trust me they will. It just takes some people a little longer to realize what they want and how to get it. Besides at this point we are all adults, being able to fend for ones self, and seeking out and getting the funds we need to accomplish our goals is a stepping stone for adulthood. Life will not get any easier for us =] Thanks for posting and a very good topic! -WickedSpies

Hi spidy, I agree with you.But you know, there could be other solution as far as the payment is concerned.Let's take the example of education in Singapore.Students there are bound to work at least for three years for the country in any company. There may be some other way to provide the payment to the teachers. Thanks for commenting, Happy MyLotting!!

But you know also that education in singapore is very expensive? I had studied there before for a short term courses and their short courses (30 hrs) only it cost me almost $400.

Yes this is true, then it all comes back to the support/traditions of the parents involved. Many people see work as a turning point in a youths lives... is it right for us to impose on the traditions of others just because we see something as right or wrong? I agree with you though, but ultimately it comes down to how much those people are willing to put up with and what they want and expect from their leaders...

I agree with you. But the government should be ready to spend a lot to give uniform syllabus to all, rich and the poor. And all the schools should look alike and should be handled by trained staffs. It should be like a multinational company going for franchisee. All the students should be provided uniform and even meals.

That is entirely different. We lack lot of confidence which our education system fails to give. We are not allowed to raise questions and discuss about subjects under the guidance of a trained teacher. Just we have to memorize things and teachers are keen on completing their syllabus. That is why we don't know how and where to apply our knowledge.

Hi ganesh, Yes,it should be like that. The true measure of a country's development lies in the strength in education. We Indians are either not educated enough or maintain silence when it's necessary to apply our so called knowledge acquired through education. Thnaks for commenting, Happy MyLotting!!

Education can never be free of cost, because no one is going to work for free, but it can be offered for all in the form of public education provided by tax money collected by the government. This is currently done for grades kindergarten through the 12th grade in America, but it should be for college also.

Hi pogo, I didn't imply that free of cost means the teachers should not be paid, but I rather suggested whether the student's educational fees can be waived. The government should give money from his funds collected imposing taxes or in some other way.Anyway, Thanks for comenting, Happy MyLotting!!

There are lots of scholarship for those talented students for them to avail free studies so that their talents will not be in waste, but sad to say there are lots of students that are not dedicated and committed enough to pursue their studies. It must be the student's responsibility to look for that agencies that offers free studies for them to pursue ambitions in life, it is not the agencies that will knock at their door but it would be the students that will look for them and knock their door, sometimes it is the agencies that will go to the honor students and offers their scholarship program to the students. I was once a recipient of the scholarship program of the government they offered free studies with food allowance monthly, book allowance per semester, clothing allowance per year, and extra allowance per semester. What I did, I went to our guidance counselor and ask her if there are opportunities for scholarship.

hi rb, yes, scholarship should be given but at the same time they should track the student's performance. If the student is not capable of maintaining the educational standard of a hi profile educational institute, then the student should find admission to other low standard institute. But still,I think, education should be a must up to a level and that should be free.Isn't it? I agree with you.Today in our country, the students have 9 year education free. But the children under 6 years old need fees to school. The fees are very high. Also, the fees of senior school and college are so high to load.So many excelent students leave school because of no money.

I definitely agree. I come from a country where education is free and accessible to all, and I think that is great, as it gives everyone the opportunity to be whatever they want to be, no matter who their parents are, what their background is and so on. I think all governments should strive for that, as it benefits each country as well to have well educated citizens.

hi yoursjannat. I have actually seen way too many college kids get their education paid for by the government or by their parents and they spend their time partying and not really fully appreciating what has been given to them. On the other hand, I see kids that get student loans that are really serious and dedicated to their education. They work hard and do their best to keep up their grades. Why? because they are paying for it. It is worth it to them and they don't want to waste their own money. If someone really wants an education there are ways to get it. I see more go to waste while given a free ride than those that really want it being denied.

I agree with you! If the government wants to train more specialists with good qualification (and government wants to), we should have free education. Money is often the greatest obstacle on the way to getting educated. Talented people are being born in some poor families too, but unfortunately they don't have enough money to develop their talent and get qualification, which would allow them to get a good job. Such situation is slowing down the progress of country and makes young talents go to waste.

Not only should be free but all students should get enough money to survive the month. But that would be to much because than some reach people wouldn't have that much to steal and money couldn't be spent for things we don't need

I do agree. But even the tuition fees are free it will still cost you. You need allowance daily. If you entered a school far from your home you need to pay for rent on your shelter. It really will cost you. But it will be more helpful if education will be free.

you know for me, it is not always free, individuals who really want to study should also look for some way to study, however the government should make sure that the state universities or public grade school or high school should only ask for low fee, here in the Philippines no tuition fee for public elementary school and high school and for the state universities only low amount per unit, and also the government should offer many scholarship for deserving student, like me i am a scholar here in Philippines the government fund my study

You are absolutely correct man.I also thinking that the education should be free of cost. Here some of job oriented courses are reserved only for those who have enough money. The govt of every country must take serious actions to ensure education to all .

It is the responsibility of every government to provide basic education to their citizens. Taxes are imposed so that the government can provide basic services, and education is a basic service. However, due to corrupt practices in the government, the fund usually doesn't reach to programs intended for education. The government must realize that investing in education is very important for the welfare of the country.

I absolutely agree that education should be free. Everybody in a country has a rights to get an education at least until senior high school. I'm Indonesian, in my country there is a regulation that manage the rights to get education freely. But in a lot of case it's really hard to applied. I am still seeing a lot of child trying to earn a little money that they shouldn't have to do it. What a poor of them. I Hope free education can be really applied for all over child in my country as soon as possible.

In an ideal world yes it should be free but the money has come from somewhere, normally tax payers. teachers don't work for free and course materials cost money, I think people who can afford it should have to pay and those who can't should get all the help they need.

Advance countries do offer scholarship to those who are deserving and serious students. Since government cannot support everything the school or universities needs, enterpreneurs started to build schools and universities everyhwere . These institutes invested almost their whole lives training teachers, developing curriculum and perfecting their schools as a whole and managing to level up with the quick pace of the modernzation. And so only those who can afford can attend these kind of institutes.... Good topic and note * there is no free education because teachers do eat and they have bills to pay.

If you're speaking of college I'm not sure I agree. College costs much more money. It takes a lot more equipment and the best teachers they can find and that's going to cost a lot more.

Hi yours jannat: I agree with you. I think that all the countries and the governments should implement programs to make education free because it's a right and that's the way a country grows up and stop poverty. I understand that it's difficult for some countries to do this but they can make the first steps to one day have an universal educational system that would be free of cost. Thanks for asking us this question. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I think everything being free is just opening up the doors for disaster. While education is needed, allowing just anyone in the door might be a disaster of epic proportions. Therefore, there needs to be some guidelines established for the educational process. I do agree that it is a bit steep and the costs might keep some people who are deserving of an education out. I think that there should be more support for those who do have the intelligence to do so. Those who excel in school should be rewarded. Given breaks on their payments, having to pay less than someone else. I think that will help encourage students to do better in school and thus we will have a brighter future. Its a simple solution I think, but one that hardly anyone would even do, which is a shame to be honest with you.
