A few days back, i woke up from sleep in the middle of the night and found that my hubby was not lying next to me, i got up and looked for him in the loo and he was not there, i checked the door and the door was locked, so he could not have gone out, i was so worried and scared, then i started checking the rest of the house and at last, i found him sleeping in the kitchen, i was shocked to see him lying there in the floor like that and woke him up and asked him what happened, he just calmly said, "i came to drink water, i was so sleepy, think i must lied down here itself", can someone sleep this badly, i really wonder...have you known people like him who sleeps just in a matter of seconds, not even knowing where they are?

Hahahaha! This is so funny it made me remember one of my work mates. He is a Supervisor in our company and other co- Supervisors and even staffs sometimes make fun of him. It's because I think he has some kind of illness which has something to do with being too much sleepy that he can even sleep while talking to you. He is kind of weird however, I heard something about it from my psychology class. I think it is somewhat a disorder. One time while my husband was talking to him because they need to look for a file in his desktop my husband was so shocked. He fell asleep while they are in the middle of searching for the file. He dragged the mouse and scrolled on the page then suddenly his hand stopped moving. My husband checked him out and saw he fell asleep. My husband did not wake him up and decided to just leave him alone on his chair asleep. When he came after 45 minutes he is already awake so they continued looking for the file again and the same thing happened. This time my husband did not leave the him. He waited for him to wake up and then it seems that he is not even aware he fell asleep. So my husband told him about it and he just laughed. It always happens even when we are in the middle of a Management meeting. The Boss would always call his name since everyone is already aware that if left alone he will fall into a deep sleep. He said he is really trying his best to fight the drowsiness but sometimes he can't. He falls asleep without him knowing it.

I don't want to offend anyone but your reply here makes me laugh and I was really feeling amused reading your reply here. The supervisor maybe suffer a rare condition and I can't even call it illness because it's not. But It's the first time I heard or read something about this sleep disorder. Good thing is that even if he suffers likes that all the time the boss did not kicked him out from his job. He must be a good and loyal worker because the managements don't want to lose him and even acknowledge about his special sleeping disorder. But do you think it will be dangerous like if he might suddenly fell down on the chair and hit his head somewhere in a hard surface. Hope it wont happen.

This sleeping disorder is called narcolepsy in psychology. Good thing his is not the worst of its case. Other people who have narcolepsy can't live a normal life because anytime there is a possibility that they could get harmed. People who are narcoleptic fall asleep even when driving, talking in front of a crowd, etc. I think it's the same as a catatonic. My sister is a Nurse and had a patient who is catatonic. A catatonic person can't also live a normal live because just like robots or machines they seem to get stuck and cannot moved when their batteries get drained. A catatonic is like that. Sometimes they have to carry the patient because he would just suddenly stop walking and would stay in that position for the whole day like a statue. Just imagine this person crossing a very busy street. It's kind of scary just imagining that. Good thing that Supervisor is still able to live a normal life. However, he needs to move a lot. Everyone in the office knew about his situation and he does not mind when sometimes they would tease him about it. One time we were having a discussion and then he asked a question that was already answered. Our office mates told him, "We were just discussing that while you were sleeping." and then everyone including him laughed. One time when I passed by his cubicle I saw him doing the jumping jack. I asked him why. His answer was, "I'm being attacked by my worst enemy. I'm on a fight with drowsiness." I would laughed at his joke and left him alone."

I used to sleep in front of my computer every time especially if it is already midnight. I just don't know that I am already sleeping and would only know when my head breaks my techies keyboard. :)

... and by the way, I just passed by a security guard standing by the door of the guard house, mind you, sleeping while standing and leaning by the door frame. I saw this just 3 hours ago... so nobody is manning the traffic that is passing right in front of him.

My dad once related a story of his personal experience where one night, according to him he fell asleep on a toilet bowl, I mean sitting on it, perhaps after the deed. It was funny, hearing the story at the time but as I reflected back, I realized that it could somehow be dangerous. Thinking that while asleep sitting you lost your balance and your head hits something hard and then never waking up or something...

That's unbelievable, he could just sit on the chair and sleep there but not in the floor. Maybe he thought that he's already in the bedroom. My brother in law as my mother tell me, is easily fall into sleep. He will just sit in the chair and in seconds he's sleeping already. Your husband case is so bizarre.

Sorry, This probably isn't gonna be much help, but the only people I've ever heard just dropping like a rock in the middle of the kitchen were people suffering from severe exhaustion, sleep walkers, and pot heads. Perhaps you should ask him if he knows anything about either of these. Or perhaps not since such implications could lead to immediate marital trouble....

yeah...the next day when we discussed about it, he said it was completely because of "severe exhaustion", but even then i find it extraordinary

Sleeping man - Man sleeps on a pile of books
Prior to your sharing in this discussion, I've not heard of anything like you've described. Come to think of it, there was once when I was too exhausted from a hectic day at work and I went straight to bed without having my dinner. I woke up in the middle of night feeling hungry and decided to find something to eat, but still feeling tired. I spread two slices of bread with peanut butter which to me was quite a daunting task. After gobbling up the food, I felt asleep on the dining table without knowing it! When I woke up, it was morning! I guess it could be when the body digested the food and at the same time I was too exhausted that I did not go back to bed, and too much a hassle to. I could sleep anywhere, even when standing when I am too exhausted!

Hi Sharay, Sounds as if he may have been sleep walking or something. I have never fallen asleep on the kitchen floor like that but I have fallen asleep sitting here on the computer many times. That must have been a few seconds of complete panic for you when you first walked in and saw him lying there like that!! Thankfully you found him. He would have probably been pretty sore once he woke up had you not!

Oh sure! i was like, on spotting him, didnt know what to do, my heart was pounding and i have never witnessed him to something like that, first of all, he never sleeps on the floor, the first thing that came to my mind was, did he have a heart attack or something....i am telling this incident here as a joke, but it was too scary for me that particular day

That is really funny to hear. Actually I expect him under the cot, rolling down to floor. Well, there are people I know who use to have their night dinner and washing their hands, just lat down and sleep instantly. They are trained like that. So, have a water jug near your bed, so that your hubby will not to kitchen again.

I dont have this good of a story, but i do have one. I havent found him sleeping anywhere, but i woke up one night and my boyfriend wasn't next to me so i though well he must be in the bathroom or out on the couch and no big deal but then i got to thinking to go check on him so i walked around the house and then i finally noticed the slidding glass door was open and noticed him out on the back porch eating cereal. It was late at night when he was doing this like he was sleep walking and then got hungry maybe. He also wakes up and doesn't remember much but waking up in the other room and not knowing how he got there. Kinda weird but i guess these things happen. At least they are funny stories to share with people.

Hi Sharay Yes- it is possible and there are people who can sleep within seconds too. I remember when I had started training under a senior for my first job- mind you it was a selling job which also involved going out in the field- and the on the first time we went out to make a call on a prospective client this senior guy, half way while discussing with the client, he started snoring , and I woke him up; luckily when he was asleep and snoring the client had gone out of his cabin to order some tea for us and missed this!! later on he told me that he liked the way I started my call and was confident that I was good enough to do all on my own so he got bored and slept!! Only later when i discussed this in my office, some one told me that this person had a very rare 'disorder' because of which when he keeps still he goes to sleep within seconds but then gets up after he snores. And for this reason he does not drive any vehicle as once he fell asleep on a very straight road, luckily the vehicle stopped before any damage done

well, if that happened to me, I would be totally freaked out! But no nothing like that has ever happened to me, although I do have a 9 year old son who sleepwalks an awful lot, and that scares me sometimes, because he looks wide awake, and has a conversation with you, and then just turns round and gets back into bed pulls the covers on himself, and goes into a deep sleep. I have no clue as to why he does it, but it is quite scary sometimes!

He must have been really very tired. My husband also sleeps instantly if he is very tired. You can always keep a bottle of water in your bedroom. I always keep one whether we drink or not.
