Didn't your grandma told you that?

With the warm climate here, we normally sleep without a blanket. My late grandma when I was growing up. She would make sure that at least our feet were covered. The things that she said, "That should keep you warm and keep the bad elements out". I thought grandma knew best and I always tried to follow what she said. I may not now although I can still remember some of the things she had said. What are some of the things your grandma told you? Do you think there's any truth in it? Let us hear your story.

Yes Tomi, I have also remembered my Grand-Mother's advices! Though she has left us in 1985, but her repeating advices not to waste any food grain / food item during our meals have made me well alert at the time of eating or preparing food when necessary! This is a practice for me over many years from my childhood! She was regarding each food grain as Laxmi (the Goddess of Food, Prosperity and Wealth)! Our present world now requires proper use of food materials without wastage, by which more hungry people can be fed upon! In this context, I feel that my Garnd-Mother's advises were the most worthy and ideal! Thanks for this nice topic and let's follow our Grand-mother's advices for a better living!!

That's a wonderful piece of advice Mitraa. Love you brought this up. Wastage is what we cannot condone especially with the limited resources we have and are depleting very fast now. Your grandma's words were true then, now and forever. Great! Love it! Thanks for sharing.

hahaha...it's funny sometimes to recall those weird things that our grandparents have told to us.. ^__^ My grandma is still living with us in our home...she always warn us not to take a bath whenever we have menstruation...ans she use not to take a bath too every Tuesday and Friday because as she told to us, there's a bad element around us that can harm us whenever we do things that we should not do. ^__^

My grandmother told me when I was a kid: "Do not eat while laughing," back when I was a kid does not care about the words of my grandmother, but after I was grown up now, I try to analyze the words of my grandmother is. I think my grandmother's words are true and must be obeyed, because if we are eating and laughing can be dangerous for us,choking and food can get into the lung cavity. So do not be considered trivial words of parents, because they have lots of experience than we do.

Chanlot, grandmothers may seem to be fussy and naggy. But that's because they love us. We don't have to learn what true love is until it is gone. So appreciate the time you have with your grandma now. If I could go back into time that's exactly what I wanna do. Thanks again.

yes I loved my grandmother, because Grandma said it so because he also loves me and he did not want me to be sick. But sometimes I am angry too if my grandmother was too fussy,heheee....

I was told exactly the same thing. I think there is some truth to all these wisdom that the elders told us. I'm sure they have benefitted from some of them and so they remembered it and pass it on. I grew up with my grandparents so they have told me a lot of things. I will follow if I find it reasonable. For instance, I'm not supposed to wash my hair after 7pm and we should not wash hands after applying medicated oil. Are these reasonable to you?

Hi bluemoonpavilion. Beautiful avatar you have there. Serene and calm. I love the word wisdom here, of what the elders have benefited and passed them on. For that, Yes I agree that grandma's words could have been time-tested. I don't need to be reminded of grandma's words until I caught a cold after washing my hair after 7 pm. Thanks for bringing it up. And not washing my hands after applying medicated oil, that makes sense not to wash the medicines off. There are things I may not adhere/abide to because of changing times but I certainly do not want to challenge them either. Thank you for the wonderful sharing.

Thanks for starting this topic, it started me reminiscing about all the good times I have with my grandparents. I have moved out last year so now I only get to see them once a fortnight or so. And thanks for the compliments on my avatar, I'm glad you like it. :D

I used to lick a table knife that i used to eat steak when i was a little girl. i knew it was silly and it can hurt my tongue but i never stopped doing it. one night, my granny saw what i was doing so she got angry. she said, "don't lick that knife, because when you grow up, your tongue will be just "as sharp as the knife"..." i hope everybody understand what she meant here. so now i'm 20's, and i realise that my words when i'm angry and disliking something are quite hurtful to others. though i do believe that it is my behaviour due to my immaturity, but that never stopped me from remembering and thinking back what she said to me in the past. cheers

Man, there are heaps of things that my grandma has told me but I always listened and obeyed for she was an adult and I always listened and did what I was told anyways. Keeping myself warm was one thing that she told me to do. She always told me never to speak to strangers or jump into a car that I didn't know. I can not really remember anything else that she has told me. $-MrDollars-$

I know that times have changed but grandma's words may still reverberate. Grandma seems to know best because she has lived longer than us and have known more of life than us. Above all grandma always has our welfare, our wellbeing at heart.

Hi, tomitomi. I can't quite remember everything that my grandmother told me. I loved talking to her and sharing many stories with her. I loved asking her questions about my dad, uncles and aunts. I enjoyed every minute of it. She was very sweet. If I learned anything from her, it would be to treat others as kind and loving as I should.

tomitomi! Your grandma asks you to cover the legs as it is more vulnerable to the weather change. You can directly sense the cold in your feet and so she insisted to do that. I don't have the chance to live with any of my grandmas but I can add one more thing to this. Just close your ears also with the blanket and you will not feel the cold.

Hi srganesh! You might be right. There were some warm nights I woke up sweating because of the blanket over me. I knew it had to be the work of my grandma. Nevertheless I'd always enjoyed having her around. Thanks for sharing.

My late grandma told me about our Balinese traditional stories. She told me many stories almost everyday when she was alive. The stories were about local genius. Actually, I didn't understand the meaning of the stories since I was a kid. I could understood after I grow up. The stories were about wisdom, honest, hard work and everything about life. Stories is used to teach me about life and this is more effective despite of any bored advice.

Hi,tomitomi! I don't live with my grandma. And the early years when grandma took care of me are too long ago and I can't remember most of the things. But she did teach me to be kind to others and always have faith in myself.I think they are absolutely true. Old people have more experiences than we do.Many of the things they told us usually make sense. But something may not be true due to the change of the society. Anyway, their love for us is always true love. Have a nice day!
