What is Religion? it is the belief in and Worship of God or Gods,or any such system of worship and belief.(Wikipedia)...What is Spiritual means?-or of pertaining to the spirit or the soul,of or pertaining to God,or a church.(Wiktionary)..I really can't see any difference as well.but i sometimes i describe these words the other way...A Religious Person believes in the doctrines of one Religion, and in God,while a Spiritual Person believes in God,not mentioning the doctrines of every religion..Free will,or not controlled by Doctrines of any religion....I may sound wrong here,i need opinions and balance views and comments...by the way i am both religious and spiritual....How about you?

I've never thought of the differences between Religious and Spiritual, so this discussion in intriguing. Reading by the responses you got, I am glad to know there are still many people believe in God. I found out recently, many of my young friends from China, Japan and Korea who do not believe in God. Even if I do not agree with them, I respect their choice. As for me, I believe in God. There are many good things happened in my life with God's interference. But I can't say much of religions. I am kind of disappointed with religions. Well, maybe not toward the religions directly, but mostly toward the people who blindly follow a religion. And why the leader of the religion allows and encourages it to happen. So, I don't know if I am a spiritual person, I may be just being agnostic. Definitely I am not a religious person.

As I believe, a religious person should have an abundance of love and a big tolerance to others. A religious person does not hate, does not threaten, does not not force, does not have jealousy, does not have naughty mind, does not think bad of others and other good deeds. I am not like that.

I'm a spiritual person, but religious person, that I doubt. I just believe that someone from somewhere is destined to save our souls and spirits. There are so many religions nowadays. I don't know why they even exist?

Ok,respected, but what if,no one can save you, because to me Religions plays an important role too, its a matter of choice, and belief, its like a course in school, or work that you like,or a school that you choose..If you are spiritual then which God do you believe that can save you...if you do not believe in any religion...Keep seeking and searching for the right stuff to please you.

I consider myself both. religious because I honour the Gods, and mark out times of the year significant to them. if that were all I did, I would just be religious. but as well as that I am spiritual. I'm always seeking. I'm actively taking part in my souls journey. I don't accept anything as true without exploring it and learning from it. this only makes my religion stronger. because I make my own way down the path. you can be religious and not spiritual. just believing in something because that is what you are taught, and not taking the time to explore other possibilities, or even the extents of the possibility you're going with. you can be spiritual without being religious. actively learning about the souls journey without belief in Gods. and you can be both.

Yes,i agree with you, because i share the same thoughts as you have, its a matter of seeking and believing, but remember There must be Faith in every Religion...Believe or believing in God is quite different, than Having Faith in God...Some may believe in God only when a true manifestation appear or felt Physically, but Faith is different believing in God, even without having seen god or Felt it Physically.. Having Faith is very difficult to achieve ,nowadays most human being says, To see is to Believe....THANKS!

Religion is man-made and is man-ipulated by men to make Money and gain Power, and its a Scam that has been a tremendous success for thousands of years. Today The Christian Religion is second to none in the business world for being Wealthy and Powerful. Spiritualism is the belief that all reality is Spiritual. Spiritualists look to God for answers, rather than asking Religious Officials for an answer. It is spiritually impossible to be both Religious and Spiritual because one is God-given, and the other is man-made. I gave up Religion many years ago to become Spiritual.

As for me, definitely spiritual. The difference, for me, is this: I define religion as the organized religion in church trying to tell you what is right or wrong, telling you you have to attend church to be saved,... blabla. Spirituality is - again, just my opinion - a belief in God, the acceptance that we have at this point no way to know who or what God really is and still knowing that something is there and to rely on that knowledge, incorporating it into our daily life, not only artificially living it by dutyfully visiting a building once a week, thinking the rest of the week doesn't matter. I know I am exaggerating here! But basically that's it for me.

Religion is an organized group that teaches the word of God..as we all know there are lots of Religions in the world that spreads they say the words of God.It is sometimes a Choice or some say, forced or it was just a Family tradition, you can seek for yourself and study any religion that you think may please your Standards, its a matter of choice, whatever Religion you may come up with, the rules are sometimes the same, serve God,tithe,Pray, have faith, and do good...and attend Masses...Respect any doctrines of any Religion then there will be Peace on earth....Thanks leasmom..

I personally do not believe in Churches. I am spiritual and did attend church as a child but too many people fight over religion and I think this is wrong. Your beliefs should be your own and should never be forced upon others. Some religions have tried to take over the world with their beliefs and forced them upon others to the point where people were murdered, raped, beaten and bludgeoned. How can anyone call themselves religious if they can hurt another human over it? I belong to a multitude of social sites and when anyone asks to befriend me I am quite happy unless they say something like "in Jesus name" or "God be with you", etc. No thank you! Keep your beliefs to yourself (I do believe in God but it may not be the same God as yours).

I RESPECT your opinion wendymckee, but how did you know that there is God?is it from Religions right!and when one organization introduces you to God, we call it religion to me,its a matter of choice ,its like a school,if you talk about harvard,or school of Hard knocks, you may pick a choice,,,so as religions...Keep believing in yourself and your God too....Thanks!

I would like to think of myself as a spiritual person. There’s big difference between being religious and being spiritual. Religion confines you to a particular God, a particular set of rules and beliefs and injects you with a sense of superiority over others…it pampers your ego but spirituality understands and believes that God is omnipresent and there is no such thing as a particular God for a particular religion. Spirituality does not force you to regularly worship anything…it is more in connection with nature and the wonderful force of life that flows thru nature. Spirituality believes in the sanctity of the soul as part of that divine force…so to a spiritual person, there is no division on the basis of religion.

We almost have the same position here, but always think that every religion has its own belief ,and that is to be SAVED,Spiritual and Religious we may be, but without Faith in it,it will not work well, that is my opinion...Thanks and have a Good day!

Some may go to church because they are used to it,they cannot have a good Week by not visiting their own Church, that i respect, but visiting church just physically is different, one may be physically present but the mental is somewhere else, religions also plays a big role in the world...Respect other religions,i think there will be no big discussions here, but as I've said, we want to hear views and opinions from each and everyone of us,then we can see the balance....Thanks 621

Hi, There is a very subtle difference. When a person is religious, he is bounded by his own religion. He may have kinda favoritism and bias towards his own religion. On the contrary, when a person is spiritual, he is beyond religions. Then he observes that all religion actually leads to the same objective. You may say, when a religious person gets matured enough, he turns into a spiritual person, though drawing a line between them is sometimes really difficult. Thanks God bless you

hi ,thanks, yeah i think that is true,in every Religion, there are doctrines that are being teach, like for instance the Christians have Bible, and the Muslims the Koran, But the Problem sometimes arises from the way of teaching, some add text and words from the scriptures, others deleted some from the it,some just teach and never altered any words from the scriptures...Well, as you say it is so difficult...Again thanks pal....

The answer to the question, "What is Religion" is that religion is a system of faith and worship. It helps you to become a better person than you are. It helps you to live according to your given human nature. Last but not the least it prepares you for an afterlife. Next, what is spirituality. Spirituality is an ultimate and immaterial reality. It enables one to discover the essence of his inner life. It also enable you to experience a larger reality, yielding a more comprehensive self; with other individuals or the human community; with nature or the cosmos; or with the divine realm. Religion regards spirituality as an integral aspect of religious experience. Since I am a Christian, I call myself as "more spiritual than religious". I may (but not always) imply relative deprecation of rules, rituals, and tradition while preferring an intimate relationship with God. The basis for my belief is that Jesus Christ came to free humankind from those rules, rituals, and traditions, giving humankind the ability to "walk in the spirit" thus maintaining a "Christian" lifestyle through that one-to-one relationship with God.

Well said, but adding to that, being spiritual is being Faithful too, because if you are spiritual that means you believe in one thing that is unexplainable and that is god, there comes FAith in it...We haven't seen Jesus Christ but believe in his teachings and preachings, most likely to our God,who really is the Father...so as the other Religious Organizations....Thanks...

Hi melmabb!! Since I know myself very well...I could say that I am a spiritual person.. meaning, I have GOD in my heart spiritually.. I can't say that I am a religious person because first of all, I don't always go to church...and idolized my religion.. I don't usually follow all of the rules in my religion... But despite of those things, I can still say that I am spiritual person who have GOD always in my heart..feel HIS presence every where... Well that's my opinion...I don't search anywhere online, I just stick on what my mind and heart is saying. I hope that I helped you even a little. ^__^ Enjoy mylotting! ;p

Being you is fine, you talk from your Heart and your mind, but Religions introduces god, right!, without religion then how can we say that there is god, how would we know that God is Good, exist,or powerful..who is God,who said that there is God,that god is like this and that etc...IN fact Religion did that, that is why we know God,Did GOD CALLED us or TEXTED or E-mailed all of us,that he exist..it is through this Organization, that's why knew GOD...Spiritual yes but to me,i am both...Thanks mhekhies16,Keep it up..take Care...

I am a Spiritual person. My explanation goes like this. A religious person is a person who follows the doctrines of his religion, not necessarily his faith. However, a spiritual person follows his faith. Man should follow with his faith or what he believes in, not by what the doctrines dictate him to do. Being religious and Being faithful is totally different, but it would be better if man is both religious and faithful.

Well, spirituality i think goes with faith, because if you describe Faith it is the belief of one thing that you did not actually see,and that is God,being a spiritual person is like a direct line to god,Being Religious, spiritual and Faithful...is what all religion teach to their members..Thanks pal, i needed that....

according to the Sociologist.. Religion is a social force for unity within a group. a religion is often referred to as a community of believers while spirituality is an individual phenomenon. as secular society became more supportive through national unity and social programs, the need to belong to a religious group lessened. many people prefer a more individual approach.

As i read your opinion, i think you research well with these definition more than i did ,being spiritual yes is an individual approach to every belief, and i think with Spirituality too, every beliefs whether you are a Catholic,Muslim,Buddhist,or any other Religion, boils down to one purpose ,its a direct way of talking to God,Allah,Messiah,Jehovah,or any other term maybe...and being Religious is bound by the doctrines of every Religion, there we can see the difference and there we can see the divisions....Thanks wolves! a wooooohhhh!Great!

from Working Definition... Religion - is a human intervention that centers on specific rituals and a set of stories that outline a basic moral code and belief system. Religious often, but not necessarily, have a hierarchy of initiates, with those further into the inner circle leading the rituals for the general populace. Spirituality - relates to the spirits or essential essence of humanity. People who say they are spiritual are to grow and better this inner force.
