DOTA-what makes this game so popular?

I have been a dota player for almost 5 yrs and im still fascinated why the heck it is so popular worldwide the gameplay is simple graphics is not top of the line and its just a warcraft map. I think its the interaction between players shouting of insults(trashtalking) with one another creating a strategy on how to win and making unique lineups is all part of the game. And the maker (icefrog) also makes it a point to add new things to enhance the flavor of the game making it more versatile to every gamer.

well icefrog is not the original maker of this game. well it is that popular that a lot of mmorpg coming out is based on this game. Well i like it because of the strategy and all games are different to each other.

I am not a DOTA player but my sons are an expert on this game. What makes them so popular is the fact that they appeal to the young and old alike. In fact the Internet cafe near our house holds a DOTA tournament once a month and it is not only played by kids but older people as well. Very entertaining.

yeah DOTA can be quite addictive and you will meet different people a good way to socialize with players but keep an eye out for your sons this game has a reputation for making students skip class yeah well just a friendly advice :)

I really am not familiar with the game since I do not play a lot of games on my computer or online. But I do agree that such game is very popular and addicting. Even my 7 year old son knows the game. I also have a friend who always play the game despite the fact that he is already in his 30's. In other words, the game is really great and it has no age boundaries.

It's a team-cooperative game.Every gamer has to help his teammates to win the game.That's why it is so popular,for it's not a personal game but a teamwork.

I play dota for 5 years like you and I think it is so popular because of its no so big onerous. You can join a game and you know it won't last approximately more than 1 hour. In the longest case it will last maximum hour and a half. So when you have a free time you just join, play and after that do something else. I was quite addicted to the game but when you have other things to do you cannot play 24/7. When you join the game you can swear and insult other players if you don't agree with their strategy :D so that takes away a lot of tension :)

It combines three things in a way that no other game does... Individual skill, teamwork, and strategy. All those things come together to make what I believe is the ultimate game, DOTA.
