Money, money, money, that's all I heard

I watched President Obama's speech about the Gulf crisis. Although I do agree that BP should have fiscal responsibility for the damage done to our coast I was upset that money was the main point of the speech it's self. I was hoping for more about what will be done or tried. How our government will clean it up not vague illusions about the most important stopping of leak and clean up. All I really heard was how we will make them pay. Why has he not begun a federal clean up? Why has the government not put it's resources into stopping the leak and left it all up to BP. I know they are responsible for the leak but it is our coast we can bill them later lets just get it stopped no matter what!

I'm sorry I believe money is a major part of this mess, money to pay for what is needed for the people of each state to get what is needed in the way of stopping the oil from reaching the shores. Money to pay the local fishermen for the loss of income become of this. This is a presurized pipe that the oil is flowing out of. Trying to stop this oil from coming out is not a easy thing to do. Yes I also believe he should have started with a government clean up instead of sitting and waiting longer on Bp to so something, you clean up first then argue about who pays for it. From what I have seen on TV Louisiana's coast is done. Their fishing and oyster, and crab fishing is over for many years to come. Is Bp going to continue to pay these men for years to come. It takes years for those oysters to replace themselves. Once the federal governament seen that Bp wasn't going to do what it needed to do, I think that the federal govennment should of stepped up and took over. But really you can clean and clean on a 24 hour a day time but you aren't going to get any where while the oil is still gushing out. Seems to me they are fighting a losing battle until it is stopped from flowing.

They can't talk about the plan they have because they have none. They have no more knowledge of what to do to stop the oil than you or I do. They I believe like Bp is waiting on someone to come up with a suggestion that will work. Bp only made it worse when the cut the top off of the thing. Maybe they should do as we are told when all else fails read the directions.

Yes money is a big part but I wanted to hear him say what his specialists have come up with. What they plan to do other then telling BP that they owe money and need to hurry.

I have to say that BP has tried many more options then what our media gives them credit for. I looked up some of them after watching a show last week about what has been done and what they plan on trying next, and was surprised at how many attempts the BP people have already made. Note the show had nothing to show for what our government has done, be that to keep out of politics or not I do not know. I also saw that there where options from other nations and private folks that where not taken because they do not meet Federal regulations, ironic don't you think?

It looks like you must have missed some parts of the speech so I found a transcript for you on the web. The president was specific about many things related to stopping the leak and efforts to clean up the mess. The federal government has and continues to be very involved in the response to this crisis. : http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/06/15/transcript.obama.speech/index.html

Ok, there's nothing more I can really do for you then. If talking about the 30,000 people who are already working across 4 states to contain and clean the oil, the thousands of ships that are in the Gulf, authorizing the activation of 17,000 National Guardmen and assigning someone to develop a long term restoration plan for the Gulf states is doing nothing in your opinion then that's how you see it.

Yes do you see what you just wrote? He authorized, he assigned but he hasn't gotten anything but paper work done. It has been months and your telling me they don't have anything but "OK we told them they could"?

I just read this in case I did miss something and I would like to say that he did not say anything of actual help. He says he has authorized, and what not and that he wants but nothing about what he will do.

Why has the government repeatedly turned down help from the Dutch, from the Saudis, from local folk? Why are they turning away volunteers? why oh why?

I think that there is alot more going on for these people on the coast. They lively hoods are being affected big time. They need money to exist and to live. It isn't just a oil spill, it is the lives of the people that live there. Ofcourse money is a large aspect of what is going on there. Everything costs money!

BP's average daily profit continues to be approximately $93 Million per day. I doubt they're in danger of going bankrupt with profits like that.

I think the country is already ruined because the money doesn't stop going out and it continues to be barrowed and illused. I think the leak is going to take alot more time than what they think it is. Or what they say it is. Sure they want the BP to be responsible. I see that BP is supposedly taking action to make more money available to clean it up and to pay people. This is going to take a long time and there are no certainties I don't think. If the company goes bankrupt I think the president will try to make us and our taxes pay for it. How much money does the government have anyway? It just seems to continue to come.

Of coarse money is a big thing but I want to know what he plans to do with it. Let's face it for generations our government has taken money from companies to "help" those they have hurt and the people have seen very little of it. I want to know what else it will be used for and what will happen if they put this company under by doing so. If the company goes bankrupt who will pay the people? who will continue trying to fix the leak" who will do the clean up?

Every corporate house has to fulfill its social responsibility. We need money even to show our human face to meet out the social responsibilities.

Of coarse it does but this man is supposed to inspire Americans and make us feel safe when a disaster happens, money is not all of life and our country is more then a corporation.

My impression of his speech is that he tried to get in a little bit of everything and offered no real solutions to the problem. He has wasted too much time, so now when he is finally getting around to addressing this, all he can give is generalities and promises that things will get better, but no real direction or plan.

hi Maybe he will use the money from BP to clean up things and anyway no matter what he eventually decides nobody here ever stops to think the President does not do diddley squat on his own he has advisers, and the Senate and Congress all these people getting into the act on so much stuff he is blamed for all the time. Mylot seems to be into bashing him for everything that happens. To me that's sort of silly. No President does things by himself, bash the whole political system if you must not just one man.

Don't worry Hatley have plenty of blame for the Senate and congress butt his was about Obama's speech and when your the figure head coming out and making the speeches the sky falls on you that's the job. As for congress and the senate all they care about are their own up coming elections and as as soon as they realize the public will vote for who ever fixes this best they will all be down there shovels in hand to spread more BS and do nothing.
