today novels are coming out in abundance, and there is a rush of books at your nearest book stores everu day,but let me ask you one thing is there any book which you draw inspiration from, which in a way has a had a nearly magical effect on your life,i guess there are very few books to name so!like harry potter, twilight series etc!but when i look back i find that there were a number of books i could draw inspiration from, which was very prudent effect on my life like daniel dafoe's robinson crusoe ,it's one tale which is made immemorable by it's fantastic virtues of survival,i also liked king solomon's islands, shall we tell the presidentmthe time machine etc!this is because when these stories were written, they were written with the primary purpose of satisfying the young souls and these were stories which very close to the authors heart, and the success which came with it was only an added consolation,be it for hg wells or jules verne. But,todays authors are purely driven by monetary purpose when they write a book hoping to find a publisher who can turn them into overnight sensation,be it ,jk rowling or dan brown ,tell them that this overnight success prompted them to extend their novels to convert them into franchises,to keep the moolah coming.i don't have many books which you take into dreams ,into your sleep,to discover the really beautiful author from your best author's mind,i guess you will find it a difficult tough!alice in wonderland is one crazy example,as whoever who just saw the recent movie couldn't really take it's story blindly because to say the least it was soulless,so friends, decide for yourself!

Not sure about novels.. But reading books on a railroading stories were very inspirational to me.. One I read that I really enjoyed was called The Race to the Golden Spike... Fred Lees Casey Jones book I found amusing.. but I am a big fan of the real Jonathan Luther "Casey" Jones.. so anything with him I enjoy..
Most of what I read was not novels but was always autobiographies of true stories...
Other than books they forced us to read in school. The closest to novels I liked was.. as a child Madeline L'engle.. books I really enjoyed.. A wrinkle in time and them .. Other wise I turn to Sacred texts, like the Bible, Bhagavad-Gita, and The Qu'ran ... I find those all inspiring.. reading all those sacred texts.. and studying religion.. I never really took a break to read a good novel :)
